Not gonna defend corporations here, but valve isnt public. They are privately owned by the bosses and employees, valve has one of the lowest turnover rates in the industry. It is quite difficult to get a job there for that reason. So they are actually quite beholden to their workers.
I’d rather have those than the half a dozen random crashes since the update. Everything runs fine, mission progresses, you are done and on the way to extraction. Boom desktop, game process gone, as well as 20 minutes of lifetime. Really kills the fun.
Tangentially related, but reading this made me wonder how it works for her. The picture shows her with short, open hair and a lot more visible skin than strict islam allows. Special permission? For clarification, the Helldivers are not the regular earth military, that’s the SEAF. The helldivers are some sort of cannon fodder citizens high as fuck on propaganda, deployed on completely reckless complementary missions deep behind the actual front lines that have by default a low chance of success or survival and mostly only serve the role of cavalry: barge into the enemy supply lines, wreck shit and bail again, to take pressure of the main army.
As for the FTL (alcubierre) drive, according to the lore we encountered a third faction in hd1 that was initially peaceful but very technologically advanced, and essentially exterminated them and stole their tech. As far as I know the alcubierre drive model requires dark and/or anti matter to function, so I would guess humanity has also learned (stolen the knowledge) how to harness these substances.
I just realized I dont know who this lady is in real life, i think i never saw her prior to the expanse and then in a bunch of other recent sci fi movies. Seems unusual that an actress would achieve popularity only with age, mostly it is the reverse. Not to say I dislike her, she is great and very memorable with her hardass roles and chain smoker voice.

Thanks, i managed to find the disks app (I went with the gnome(?) DE) and, after some reckless experimenting, figured out how to tell the system that they are not windows exclusive partitions and it should load them.
I then pinned them to the quick access thing, which is okay for now to watch some movies from my media drive. Though I would prefer if the contents showed up in the according system folders for music and videos

Not sure if that is an option for you too, but I have a scanwatch light myself. It is a hybrid smartwatch, being a classic analog watch with a small black and white display in the background.
The scanwatch products are health focused, allowing the user to track a variety of health stats like heartrate, activities and sleep analysis. It is very energy efficient, requring a a recharge about once a month in my case.
It is noteworthy that the hybrid concept makes some cuts to the smartness of the watch, for example replying to messages from the watch is not possible, only reading them as they come in. It doesn’t have touch functionality either, instead you control it with the bezel.
You can configure in the smartphone app which apps are allowed to relay notifications to the watch, giving you the option to filter out most noise that is not relevant to your mom. You can also set up activity plans to track and/or remind her to engage in some moderate activities like taking a walk.
Do note though that the watch asks for a subscription for some premium functions, like workout plans and more in depth health analysis. I don’t have that myself either though, being able to generally monitor my activities is enough for me. The watch also relies on the paired smartphone for its gps functionality, without the phone it would essentially be reduced to a classic wristwatch.
DRM were in the game consistently and known beforehand. You see it starting up before the game itself launches. You cannot play the game for a second without it.
Psn was not required for 99% of the game’s lifetime, was listed in Sony’s TOS as optional for PC users up until the recent fiasco, and is not available in many regions the game has been sold. Also, Sony got hacked like a dozen times in a handful of years.
Now why would one of those go down relatively smoothly and the other not?
More than anything it is a matter of principle and choice.
Yes, the psn thing was listed somewhere deep down the steam page, where most users dont bother to look and people who are gifted the game will never ckeck. It was also disabled almost immediately, and many thousands of players bought the game and played it for months without ever being asked or informed to make a psn account. Evidently the game runs perfectly fine as is without any need or tangible advantage to enable it now, aside from obvious corporate greed. Even the security pretense they tried doesn’t track because as you point out there is a very invasive anti cheat running anyway.
Meanwhile the anti cheat was also very unpopular, but players could make that choice themselves because it is well known, prominently displayed, and has been consistently a part of the game.
Also, it is not hypocritical at all. One is for mostly legitimate reasons like cheat protection, the other is obvious and pure corporate greed. Not to mention that the assumption that if a person is willing to compromise their data to one party, they should he willing to give it to anyone else who asks as well, is a logical fallacy.
