As it turns out, my optometrist’s computers were hacked. We received a letter that my birthday and medical information were compromised. Now, I don’t mind that some hacker is salivating over my prescription reading glasses, but a scammer might trick me into some action. So when did that hack occur? A YEAR AGO, and only now they are informing me. No one said anything in December when I dropped in, no one said anything when I picked up my classes in February. Bad PR.

This week, was behaving very lethargic and we thought he might pass away. He is eating very little dry food and only eating the fat in his wet food. We started to buy the very small wet food cans as he refused to eat from a can that has been open 24 hours or more. But he is more resilient than expected and he is still around, even going outside once in a while. He tends to loaf in different places than he used to and still enjoys our lap

What’s the chance you’re taking pics for a newspaper and “a cyclist” (we know better) cycles through your pic.

Sadly has Feline Leukaemia. He has not much longer to live and lost a third of his body weight. He is getting slower, eats gradually less, doesn’t play much anymore but still appears to enjoy being around. He used to wake us up, but no more. It is a waiting game now and we have put our lives on hold. It is apparently a common cause of death for cats.

Interesting!! This morning's paper reports on the NCC mulling the Queen Elizabeth Drive in as an alternative for the Rideau Canal Skateway after several disappointing skate seasons. Here’s the article copied for you: https://hansonthebike.com/2024/04/01/rideau-canal-ottawa/

Ontario’s Conservative premier wants federal workers to take public transit into town to save transit and downtown restaurants while setting money aside for new interchange to improve automobile traffic flow. “It’s a real massive boost to transit ridership, it’s huge.”

Between 2012 and 2016, my dentist raised his prices for a ‘scaling unit’ by a very modest 1% per year. Between 2016 and 2019 it was even less. Since COVID 4 years ago, prices have gone up by 5.5% per year.

With changing weather patterns come more downpours in . A good strategy is to try to store that as close to where it fell. The Netherlands is experimenting with wadis and streets that absorb water better. https://hansonthebike.com/2024/03/20/rainwater-street-sponge-wadi-water/

@grivettcarnac I walked a stretch of it last week and it was as clear as the 417 in July. I walked from Merivale westbound towards the reservoir. There were other people coming towards me (even a cargo bike) EB so you should be good to go. The farm roads are entirely clear and I don’t thing that 1 -2 cm of drift snow will spoil it for you. You could also do partly Farm, turn south on Fisher, cross Baseline, then into Dynes. Fisher and Dynes have bike lanes. Dynes is quiet.

@johnefrancis @grivettcarnac Fisher is wide enough to have complete separate bike infrastructure on both sides. Still hoping for that. Meadowlands should have had 2 meter wide separate bike infra on each side all the way from Woodroffe to Hog’s Back already.

Do you think the @CBCNews should use spammy headlines? Why not just ‘in Kingston’ rather than ‘an city” and why not just name the disease? And is 3 confirmed cases ‘a spike’?

Yesterday I had to pick someone up at the airport. It was rush hour, it was raining, there were strong winds, there was a flash freeze warning in . I left in time to cover the 10 km. Part of the route is the Airport parkway. I merged and crawled at 30-40 km per hour. After Hunt club, traffic had evaporated. And I was back to 80 kph. On an early morning without traffic, I drive it in 12-15 minutes. Yesterday it was…..20 minutes. Is that worth a $100 million dollars Airport Pkw expansion?

Babboe is recalling 10,000 cargo bikes. If you have a CITY, CITY E, MINI en MINI E, do contact Babboe or their resellers.

@Auxonic yeah, they had issues before with broken frames. Accell, that also owns other big Dutch brands, should have enough assets as I understand the bike market in the Netherlands is a bit of an oligopoly.

Last year I created a food map of the Merivale Road area. I counted a lot more places than I had expected. This year I recreated it, with an overview of who’s new and who’s gone. Spoiler alert: Italian is decreasing, Asian is growing.

Read more in my latest blog, including an updated map which includes two safer suggestions: https://hansonthebike.com/2024/02/08/food-map-merivale-road-2024/

I am trying to restore a 2008 A900 17” Intel P2 T2390 laptop with 3 Gig Ram (2+1). It completely crashes. I know very little about computer hardware but I am guessing there is a RAM issue. Am I right? This is going over my head but I hate to throw out a laptop that has a working keyboard, screen, mousepad, wireless and all that. I was attempting to install . I know it is pushing but I think it could be running on . Any suggestions?

@ShaunOttawa no success unfortunately. I removed one stick, then the other, but it doesn’t work with only one stick. Swapped the sticks’ location, no Improvement either. Another alarm is “end Kernel panic - not syncing - attempted to kill it”. So this will be a tough one if not impossible.
