Economists call this a K shaped recovery. People at the top of the economy stop being in a recession. People at the bottom of the economy stay in the recession. Net, it looks like a recovery.
Jumping off of high things is a lot of fun. We had friends who had a cabin on a lake. You could jump from a deck about five stories down to the water. We spent a few afternoons doing that growing up. It turned my fear of heights into a very strong call of the void.
I’m in california in a reddish town in a “blue” county. The saturday and sunday before election day, during early voting, one of those “convoys” drove by our polling places in lifted trucks with trump flags and fired off a few rounds. They made a loop around town all day to all the polling places, went by the one by my home seven or eight times. Law enforcement did jack shit, because one of the folk in the “convoy” lives three streets over and is one of those problem “always driving through the 25 and by the school at 60, rolling coal” neighbors. We’d have noticed if he was arrested. Trump still lost easily in our county. Probably because all us blue voters had already voted.

I was at this (admittedly pretty, built right in the middle of a forest and on a mountain) church building and walked around a corner right into this family of deer. Eight point buck about five feet in front of me, three other deer on the other side of a wrought iron fence behind him. I start slowly backing away and this young woman I’m with wants to walk up and pet the buck. Like what the fuck, let’s get gored.
