@kev I once had a full English breakfast for dinner with some foodie friends. It’s fine. You should ask your friends if beans and rice are therefore also disgusting, because it’s the same concept of starch on starch.
Interesting that American baked beans are sweeter than British. Maybe I’d like yours better than ours. But I love Mexican food, so I’m more likely to go with what @joel is posting anyway.
@joel I guess you can add three more couples you don’t know. My wife is older than me (1.5 years), my sister is older than her husband (2 to 4 years, IIRC), and our mom is older than our dad (1 year).
@mike oh, a vision of my future. Early on in our relationship, my wife and I realized, while we aren’t large people, we enjoy and eat more food than our peers. Later, we realized our children inherited our appetites, so the joke became, “We’re going to cause a famine with our brood.”
For all the #StarTrek fans out there, happy #FirstContactDay! I consider it a missed opportunity that First Contact Day is April 5th. First Contact apparently took place in Bozeman, Montana (a place I lived for many, MANY years). The only area code for Montana is 406, so having First Contact on April 6th instead of 5th would have been a fun little nod to the area. Oh well. I'll stop nerding all over.
Fosstodon has been upgraded to version 4.2.8 of the Mastodon software. This is a nice release as it comes with a couple new features to help reduce spam in the Fed. They won't change how Fosstodon works, but their inclusion will mean we'll be seeing less unwelcome influx from outside of our instance, and that's a very good thing. Don't hesitate to read the release notes if you're interested. They're short.
@mike I know it’s naturally lower profile, but it’s nice to hear about a mastodon upgrade that isn’t a reaction to an urgent security fix. Thanks for the notice.
Son of the Black Sword is bit of a slow burn, but once it gets going, it's a relly good read and I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.
I realize ".jpeg" is a less common extension than ".jpg", but if your system does file-extension-based filtering for what files I can upload, and it rejects "jpeg" and tells me to use "jpg", you're doing it wrong.
@Crell what gets me is that at least one app I use defaults to .jpe. Saving that to NextCloud works, but I don’t get a thumbnail unless I change it to .jpg. Not sure if .jpeg would work.
Today I was writing elixir code the first time in my life, to convert mix.lock to json, for later processing and converting to guix package definitions.
One of the problems I faced is a lack of specification of lock file format.
I still have a few questions, but having sha256 in lock files is very promising. We will be able to generate package definitions for the whole project without accessing network.
@abcdw there intentionally isn’t a published format because they want the flexibility to change the format in the future. Kind of sucks for Nix and Guix folks, but that’s how it is.
Wow just had the opera scene in FF6 and am pretty blown away, just how fun and lovely made the game is, and that all this fit into 2 Mb back in the day is mindblowing.
@joel don’t feel too bad. I’ve never actually beaten the game because I got hung up on trying to teach all the magic to everyone. And I was stuck on the Storm Dragon because I never noticed the Ice Shield you get near it is weak to wind.
@sayomgwtf@Legit_Spaghetti eh, Kefka’s uniqueness is mostly his personal style and his success in breaking the world. Final bosses of Final Fantasy 4–9, at least, were all omnicidal maniacs of one stripe or another. Heck, FFV’s was literally named Exdeath.
@joel I seriously tried to learn Spanish from Duolingo so that I could maybe move my family to Costa Rica because my wife annually asks, “Why do we live where the air hurts your face?”
Still don’t really know Spanish; still have snow outside my window.
@joel plans to get the sequel? It’s interesting how much of a difference a few tweaks make while still staying true to the value of looking absolutely stunning.
@joel I’m following in your footsteps, it seems. Got 100% items in Metroid Dread today, might fight Raven Beak tonight. Plan to order Mario Wonder sometime soon.
