I made PetaPixel :)

It's weird to be on the Other Side for once.

This is where open source software comes unstuck, the lack of accountability and fix-it-yourself mentality.

Today, OpenShot will only export audio, not video. Best guess, some random setting in a Manjaro update had broken video export.

I have no clue what to do, a www search is little help. A future update will probably silently fix it, but meanwhile no video.

There will be neckbeards who will say "Huh, just learn how to fix it yourself!".

I bet OpenShot video export works under Windows.

@angiebaby Dear Americans. Buy an electric kettle. Realise that 110 volt kettles are slow. Move to Europe for 230 volt kettles. It will change your life.

I wrote this for Hackaday, making the plea for a tech aware cadre of political journalists. As it is, the essential task for a democracy in the form of journalists holding politicians to account is broken when it comes to tech because the journalists are clueless on that subject. Tech is treated by most major outlets as pertaining to consumer gadgets rather than privacy or encryption.

Mildly sad, because our much loved family cat from the '80s and '90s wandered into my dream.

I am looking for a load of the little punched out circles from a paper tape punch. I have to know someone who has one, don't I!

I'm trying to reassure a Trans Rescue passenger on the other side of the world. There are times when I wish I had a team of elite helicopter special forces who could swoop in and carry her off to a waiting executive jet.

I keep hearing people say my profession is under threat from AI.

The more I see the more I now believe the opposite, that good quality technical writing is a premium product.

@M0CUV I think we're approaching the peak of the Gartner Hype Cycle, and before too long they'll figure that out for themselves.

Oddly I don't welcome the huge swing to Labour in the UK by-elections, I think at a general election it would not be good for the country.

I'm old enough to remember Tony Blair. Starmer is Blair sans charisma, and I struggle to see his Labour as anything but an imitation of the Conservatives. Plus he panders to TERFs.

If Starmer becomes PM I want him to worry about his electorate, and have a modest majority. Otherwise like all the others he'll get to thinking he owns it.

@jon this.

Also, seats that change to reserved half way through the journey.

I avoid ICE wherever possible when travelling in Germany, the seat thing is just one of their problems.

JennyList,
@JennyList@mastodon.social avatar

@jon I wish the Interail app had an option to exclude them, it's a PITA planning a journey.

JennyList,
@JennyList@mastodon.social avatar

@jon Every time I use one I have a bad experience.

JennyList,
@JennyList@mastodon.social avatar

@jon true. But my experience is that every time I use one something goes wrong.

JennyList,
@JennyList@mastodon.social avatar

@jon I'm simply relaying my experiences with ICE trains. I'm just a random Brit who travels from time to time. UK trains are not too bad but expensive, FR trains are pretty good and you have to reserve the fast ones, NL trains are slow but pretty good, BE trains are dirty but staff are great , and in my admittedly more limited than yours experience DE fast trains are always problematic. Maybe I have simply been unlucky, but it's been enough to put me off them.

JennyList,
@JennyList@mastodon.social avatar

@jon tbh in France I try to get their mid tier trains unless I'm on a Eurostar or a Thalys to Belgium. Are they regional expresses? And I guess I have been lucky, nothing has yet gone wrong for me

JennyList,
@JennyList@mastodon.social avatar

@jon true, I'm normally heading south and west, or Calais to Lille for one of those Danish made units into Belgium.

JennyList,
@JennyList@mastodon.social avatar

@jon interesting. The part about integrated transport is something that NL does well. But agreed on their ticket barriers.
