Knitters and crocheters call that “plarn”. But I’ve not heard of anyone feeding it through a sewing machine first. We just roll up the strips. There’s a way to cut the bag so that it’s one long continuous strip.
A popular use for this material besides making reusable shopping bags is to make sleeping mats for homeless persons.
Edit: meant to say that I find the sewing machine use fascinating and will see if Google can shed more light on how to go about it and what machines it can/can’t be done with.
Every Thanksgiving since I was a child, I’ve had to make something for Thanksgiving. Typically, and I think this goes for many Americans (and presumably Canadians cause they have a similar Thanksgiving), this involves sharing the kitchen with way too many cooks. It can be difficult to know what tools you’ll have in an...
It takes a few minutes for my tankless water heater to warm up, so we end up wasting a lot of water in our shower. Is there a way to avoid this? A friend mentioned a “comfort valve” or something? What is it and how does it work? Or is there another solution? Thx!
um, the goal is to get the heater going by drawing on the hot supply, right? I’ve only ever seen cold supply hooked up to a toilet. So emptying and refilling the toilet tank doesn’t use up the cooled water in the hot supply line. However, catching cooler shower water in a bucket and using this to manually flush the toilet doesn’t waste the water. It is a lot of effort though.
I don’t think I’ve ever considered this before. How interesting.
My first thought is mushrooms. I think it’s the umami of them specifically. Totally unrelated, but I also think bourbon & Scotch would qualify. I tend to be very intentional when I’m in the (infrequent) mood for strong spirits, and it tends to be a quiet evening with a fire and/ or instrumental jazz.
Skin picking can show up from other conditions such as OCD mentioned above, anxiety, and also ADHD. Try again to raise the issue with your therapist. If they are dismissive, find a new therapist. Sometimes it takes trying on a few therapists to find one who clicks with you and can be helpful.

lol, watched that series of videos unfold in real time on The Soup, and am sheepishly realizing there’s probably a whole generation of people now that were too young/ not alive yet when that train wreck went down.

I am still at a point where I have to focus on the knitting, so right now the most I can do while knitting is listening to music that I need to learn, or participating in a conversation that does not take 100% of my brainpower....
Podcasts are great to listen to while knitting/ crocheting/ stitching. I find it easy to have something like football on the tv while I’m working. Movies grab my attention too much, but it’s the visual stimuli that distracts me.
But if I just sit quietly and work, that’s no good either. I’ll distract myself within minutes. Podcasts seem to be the best combo of occupying my attention just enough that I’m not bored and can also follow patterns.
Southern schooled in 80s & 90s, here. They let us believe John Wilkes Booth was a lone actor and not part of an organized plot by southern men to assassinate the president.
The first time one of my northern friends mentioned that bit about a conspiracy, my little naive mind was rocked that schools might bend or bury the truth.
The rest of the list was pretty accurate. Except nurses in schools was a Hollywood myth to me. There was no budget for such positions. We could go to the school office and ask to call our parents if we weren’t feeling well, and we’d better be feeling pretty awful.
As someone diagnosed ADHD (i.e. my relationship with dopamine is complicated) and a grandfather who had Parkinson’s, this is news to me and a little worrying, but perhaps also making sense because I’m pretty sure adhd may have been present yet undiagnosed in that side of the family.
Not Guinea, but I saw guinea pigs raised for food in a village in Tanzania. The local who owned them found it hilarious that we keep them as pets in the U.S. He asked me what we call them, and after i replied guinea pig, he said they definitely don’t taste like pig.
Currently have not one but two in the leg basket, lol. They rarely sleep with us and when they do even more rare for them to snuggle together despite being litter mates. I have to pee but i hate to disturb the cuddling. They’re in the early adult years and snuggled as kittens so I hope they’ll eventually return to doing it more often.
When we drive over train tracks, we have to lift our feet so we won’t get caught on the tracks. We’ll be mid conversation and then both of us are lifting our feet all silly like.
Note the driver only does this when it’s safe to do so. If traffic is slow or stopped on the other side, we’re not just going to rear end anyone.
With such a push against single use plastic and mirco plastics etc. Why is glitter left untouched? surely it has to be one of the worse plastic pollutants. Currently getting our Christmas shop ready, and its on everything and gets everywhere!
