KittenBiscuits,

And then given the results, Pooli suggested I dump about 5lbs of baking soda in there to neutralize the acidity. Worked like a charm.

KittenBiscuits,

And if you’re southern American, it’s because the tea is loaded down with so much sugar, it should be reclassified as simple syrup.

KittenBiscuits,

Ol’ Horned Head messing with the Christians again, I swear.

But seriously that could have been a dangerous situation for folks. Good on ya.

KittenBiscuits,

Ignored my MIL trying to send me home from her hospital bedside, and stayed with her through the night. The floor was understaffed, and they had her hooked to an IV and also gave her a strong diuretic. Nurses weren’t getting to her in time for her to make it to the bathroom every 5 minutes. And she’s wobblier after surgery than she realized. She needed help with all the up and down.

All she wanted was to go home, but didn’t realize if she’d fallen, they would have extended her stay by a few more days.

KittenBiscuits,

I’m sorry, I’m hung up on you saying election officials would track down the voter to confirm their intent. And you mentioned you volunteered or worked in elections possibly in not-the-US. In the US (or at least in my state) ballots are anonymous. That was why such a fuss was made in 2000 over trying to determine what the voter intended if a ballot had a “hanging chad”. They couldn’t just track down the person to confirm, and the margins were close enough to call a recount but not for a do-over. It was election purgatory.

KittenBiscuits,

It really nailed the pile of well used tax guides behind the monitor. However it needs more stained and empty coffee mugs scattered around.

If you can boil water, you can can. Jars are reusable. Lids will be your most scarce commodity after a while (you shouldn’t reuse the lids after they have been under pressure). Build a little smokehouse and you can preserve your meat.

I don’t even worry about downloading how to’s. There are libraries and book stores that have this information that isn’t dependent on any kind of electrical device to access it. These sites probably won’t be high priority scavenge sites to the average survivor either.

Winter meals will be mostly canned veggies, bread, and beans for protein. Salt or smoke cured meats infrequently. You’ll learn to trap small game or hunt deer. Surviving will be a lot of work but it’s totally within reach of anyone who can camp or is crafty/handy.

Why do they still dye the rivers green for St. Patricks Day? It's not a good look for downtown Chicago. (kbin.run)

I just think the novelty of these type of displays was up in the 90s, It's time for an upgrayedd. I propose leprechauns flying up and down the river wearing water jet packs, shooting people with their Chicago-style hot dog cannons would be more with the times. What's your idea?

KittenBiscuits,

Well I don’t know about anyone else, but I certainly do.

KittenBiscuits,

A modern day apothecary. Or are you an herbalist?

Cookie Monster complaint about "shrinkflation" sparks response from White House (www.cbsnews.com)

“Me hate shrinkflation! Me cookies are getting smaller,” the googly-eyed, furry blue muppet declared on X on Monday, tapping into an economic trend of the day. “Guess me going to have to eat double da cookies!”

KittenBiscuits,

It contains no extra detergents, just more water in the package.

KittenBiscuits,

Yes, may I sign up to be a butter acolyte?

KittenBiscuits,

I briefly microwave my ice cream before eating.

I don’t want it to be soupy. I’m going for soft. And I am too impatient to let it sit on the counter a bit to reach that sweet spot of consistency.

“I’m ok-ish with the idea of people who aren’t like me, but I don’t wanna have to like actually see and interact with them, y’know?”

KittenBiscuits,

You’ll be fine as long as you’re giving yourself enough time before boarding to get to the airport. Just follow the airline’s advice for how early to go. Once you have more experience flying, you may be able to cut that time down if you’re familiar with the ebbs and flows of your airport.

QR code should be no issues. Turning your brightness up can help if it is being difficult to scan. If you still have doubts, get your boarding pass printed at the kiosk.

It may be more noisy near the engines but over the wings are the structurally safest parts of the plane.

Enjoy your trip!

KittenBiscuits,

Sounds like you’re looking for the time honored Bank of Mattress Stuffed with Cash or their counterpart, Coffee Can Under the Sink Savings & Loan.

If you’re truly committing to off grid, go full analog.

Otherwise you just sound like a poorly veiled ad for some sketchy unregulated money exchange.

KittenBiscuits,

Autocorrect was just trying to get you to ketchup.

KittenBiscuits,

That… is something that I’ve never wondered about, but now you’ve got me contemplating the flavor profile of various mineral aggregates.

I can tell you what coal tastes like, not that I’ve eaten any. But when you burn it for heat, it gets everywhere. It’s bitter and kind of earthy but not like rich topsoil. More like you’ve been tailgating a school bus on a dirt road for hours. And the dirt is charred.

Heyo Newbie Question here

So I recently got my diagnosis and a RitalinLA prescription. I started with 10mg and am now on 20mg. The problem is, that I don’t feel any difference. I don’t take it on weekends, so I have regular references, but everything is still the same. For reference I’m an early twenties male. Did anyone have similar experiences...

KittenBiscuits,

This is how I experience it too, and I’m in my 40s. If I don’t take it during the week, I burn out so easily.

KittenBiscuits,

If ever I’m in Copenhagen, I guess I’m detouring to the warehouse! What a neat place!

KittenBiscuits,

I reckon the younger generations have to learn to do it in order to watch out for their elders when we aren’t as sharp as we used to be. So the wheel turns.

KittenBiscuits,

Old post, but I just subscribed to /c/travel and there haven’t been any other replies here…

I noticed the path of totality goes over Luxor. There are ample air conditioned hotels with rooftop lounge areas and some with grounds and gardens right in town. Then you won’t have to leave the air conditioning for long to watch the eclipse, and you’ll be in a great spot for getting your fill of antiquities the rest of your trip.

We took the train from Cairo and flew back. Skip the train. Just fly. The airport is fine. The trains are uncomfortable. I mean, so is flying, but that’s a couple hours compared to being stuck on a train for 12 hours. Both will probably not run on schedule. Allow wiggle room for delays.

Luxor was my favorite place to visit, but it wasn’t easy for a first time Egypt traveler that decided she didn’t really need to go with a group tour. I really dislike group traveling, but this is one place where I prefer it.

The hotel was supposed to pick us up at the train station but flaked. Maybe we should have just taken our business elsewhere after being stood up, but we had prepaid for the nights. It was a headache calling them to sort it out.

Other hotel reps and cabbies are very aggressive to get your attention if you don’t look attached to any other travel professional. We agreed to hire a cabbie to take us to our hotel, and we expected shenanigans once he had us in the car. He gave us a very hard sell to take us to another hotel, but he did eventually get us to the correct building. It helped that I had my map out and watched where we were going.

So yeah, if it were me, what I’d probably do is find a group doing Luxor > Nile cruise > Cairo, and is planning around the eclipse. Travel company sorts out all the logistics of getting from A to B, and you don’t get hassled every time you turn around.

Curious to know if you’ve found out any other particulars since you posted this. It’s a little over a month away from the North American eclipse. We’re taking the camper on a lil road trip for it!
