More bad news for Nintendo Switch emulators shows the risks of using Discord for open source communities, great news in the home automation world, further proof that crypto nonsense isn't the answer to funding open source, why telling Windows users to switch to Linux is counterproductive, and yet more FOSS in space. Another shoutout re Late Night Linux podcasts - these discussions are just so good, you should subscribe. Calm, friendly and informative. General interest linux, nice analysis of recent xz backdoor, & so forth. Even stuff that is outside my area (no sysadmin or dev experience) is interesting - it's cool to hear about how stuff works, basically. Planning to actually drop some cash on a subscription once I get my paypal to play nice with patreon.

@LateNightLinux Hey, I've just stumbled across Your podcast here and find it interesting.
It took me a while to figure out how to open the .rss file and to find the rss URL in there. Maybe it would be useful to write just "https://latenightlinux.com/feed/mp3" next to the link, for lower level nerds like me. πŸ˜…

@LittleJoeMuc hi. Most people just search their podcast app, but I assumed that most people who want the raw RSS feed would just right click copy link location. Looks like I was wrong. Glad you got it sorted in the end though. Joe

How we all keep our Linux systems secure in Voice of the masses, and another German government is giving Linux a shot. Plus removing backgrounds from images, monitoring GPUs, making music with loops, and nostalgic boot sounds.

We are joined by @jorge for an update on the world of what used to be called immutable Linux. Jorge doesn’t really like that word. He prefers β€œcomposable” Linux. Whatever you want to call it, we’re talking about an image-based approach to desktop Linux – built with cloud native technologies – that allows you to build and deploy anything from the ultimate developer workstation to a basic Chromebook-like experience for a non-technical relative.

In this first episode: the big three public cloud providers have dropped egress fees, four years of lessons and regrets from running a startup, and avoiding surprise fees when learning cloud technologies with free tiers.

@LateNightLinux Great new show, perfectly knowledgeable hosts, but why again all male? There are many podcasts featuring great female professionals in tech. But none of the LNL shows. Why?

Ubuntu is nearly 20 years old so we wanted to see how the first versions compare with the upcoming LTS. Unfortunately installing Warty turned out to much harder than we thought it would be. Dalton talks us through his adventure with a turn of the century Mac, Gary had a much easier time with an x86 PC, Joe’s laptop wasn’t quite old enough, and Chris found some surprising aspects of virtualising it.
