Outside daytime. Close up of a flower spike from the same plant. There are buds along the dark purple stem with fuzzy lines on them that look like vertical stripes. The top of the step has a single bud cluster that has 3 points.

O the grace & elegance of hedgehogs. (no hedgehogs were harmed in the making of this video._ @gardening

Outside at night, a hedgehog feeding area. The hut is in front of the camera but the hog is to the right by the plastic drinking bowl. As it drinks, it tips the bowl on its side at 180 degrees from the ground. The hog's face is in the now upright bowl & it simply stays that way.

Sycamore maple's in bloom. It's cheek & jowl with the holly, so most likely self seeded. (There's also a rose growing up through them!) Will be a headache for the landlord a few years down the road, as it's close to the fence. Landlord lets all sorts fall to bits (literally - the light in the gardage fell down a few days ago), so maybe he won't care about the fence either. @gardening

First year for cornus & the shrubs move on through their stages. I quite like this foliage. @gardening

Camassia getting there. @gardening

Closer view of a flower spike showing the open flowers on the bottom of it with a rounded yellow pistal. The top of the spike where the flowers haven't opened are a series of green scale shaped buds clasped tightly together. Gravel out of focus in the background, along with the tops of the plants in the other pots.
Close up of just the open flowers which shows the blue stamens & yellow anthers as well as the pistal. The is some spider webbing on the back petals & something like a dandelion fluff seed on one of the front petals, but the dandelions are in bloom, so another type of seed.

Sat down under the holly tree & heard this. (You may have to turn your sound up. In case you can't hear it, there's birdsong but also a constant drone of bees that are in the tree.) @gardening

So this is definitely not Summer Skies. Not even the right colour zone. The 2nd of the new geraniums to open, both misidentified at the nursery. So it's going to be surprises all around with these guys.

This happens frequently with online nurseries. Years ago, I complained, the nursery said their stock came from air pollinated seeds, so couldn't be helped.

Ok.

I don't complain anymore. Disappointed at times to not get what I wanted, but the surprises are nice, too.

The hedgehog method of getting rid of your competition. In other videos (not attached), the winning male stopped to eat, both when dispatching his rival & when courting the female. He lost interest in her after only a few minutes -the defeated male had spent over an hour wooing her.

2 more videos to follow, but this is my fav. 1/3 @gardening

Outside at night, hedgehog feeding station. 3 hedgehogs are gathered, nose to nose, on the left of the video, the female huffing at the 2 males. One of the males curls up when the other male shoves him, so the shoving male rolls the curled up male away. A tawny owl calls in the background.

If you look closely at the right part of the balled hedgehog, you can see his little face looking at you. 2/3 @gardening

He cautiously uncurls, slowly edges sway from the other 2, runs a few steps but stops when the female stops huffing, then races away. The tawny owl still calls in the background.

I've wondered, when seeing the various birds outside the hedgehog feeder, why they don't go inside. This wet one nearly went in, then decided against it. @gardening

Outside, daytime. Camera faces a hedgehog feeding station next to a house. A wet magpie enters from the right, foraging in the gravel, then sticks its head inside the feeder, picking something up from the floor. It leans further inside, putting one foot across the threshold, then moves back & exits right.

Ornamental onions moving along. Much more quickly than the allium, I might add. @gardening

Same day, same rain dotting the plants. Another ornamental onion with the floret cluster less open, looking very dark purple. Onion is in a pot with other onions & veronica that's about twice as tall.
Same day, another close up of a floret cluster where the sepals haven't yet separated. The buds are not quiet so purple & packed tight. Again, rain dots the plant.

Finally, a bud on this geranium survived the magpies who are nexting next door. This is supposed to be Summer Skies, which means that pink needs to tone down a bit, if it is. I quite like the pink, though. @gardening
