Please say hi, before following!
@EU_Commission vibrant as I’m sore the colors are, the alternative text provides no actionable information. Is there a web page that could be linked to with the same information?
Hey friends! I'm partnering with the Computing Research Association (CRA) (nonprofit) in sharing opportunity to bridge the gap between industry and academia. If you're a tech professional, please fill out this survey AND SHARE everywhere! https://cra.org/industry/p2pe
@shanselman between Qualtrics being terrible with screen readers and ReCaptcha, the response rate for blind and visually impaired professionals is likely to be disproportionally low. This may affect the results in such a way as to not create better learning opportunities for BVI students.
If there’s anything you can do to move this to another platform, that could have a really positive impact for disabled kids.
I’m still boosting it, just because I know the people around me are as stubborn as I am.
• Only share the current window (if it’s an option). This reduces distractions from your low battery indicator or Slack alerts telling you about your demotion.
• Don’t have the window maximized. Folks on the video call rarely have as a big a display (let alone same aspect ratio), never mind the video thumbs they might want to keep handy.
• Use a presentation mode if sharing PowerPoint, a browser, or similar. This will get rid of the chrome / cruft.
@aardrian I love Jetbrains IDEs’ presentation mode.
I often forget people on the other side aren’t zooming into the screen like I am. It has all the benefits you mentioned.
@aardrian while this highlights an interesting reality, I’m confused about the VO shortcut.
VO-Command-Shift-J is Find the previous control (omit Shift for next) - the closest shape to what you’re talking about. VO is Control-Option or Caps Lock. Caps Lock would be redundant here, no? Plus you can lock it anyway.
Looking at the full list of Commands and Gestures, I can’t find the command you’re talking about.
VoiceOver is definitely an interesting finger workout though.
@hbons pulling changes and syncing them, including merging into an unclean working tree, feels… scary? I’m very comfortable with that workflow via the CLI, but the GUI - that I’d expect to make newbie’s lives easier - doesn’t inspire too much confidence.
On a related note, I’d appreciate more visual tools around stashing. Visual Studio is fairly intuitive at that, Rider isn’t necessarily intuitive, but it’s bet powerful.
You guys are not going to believe this. The Jeopardy podcast is number two on the list of the top 10 Jeopardy podcasts, second only to inside Jeopardy itself.
@hbons in so much as I’m coerced into having a job, I enjoy the kind of work I do - you may feel the same way.
That being said, I do find things tend to break down when either side isn’t honest about their priorities.
The other week I decided to ask a very direct and blunt question about priorities and it became clear to me that, on that point at least, they are diametrically opposed to where I was. I can work with that though.
This does not represent the views or positions of my employer - and that’s OK.
@Techaltar I don’t like to do it very often, but there are few things more relaxing than working during a long-ish train ride. You get to really focus and enjoy the scenery, it’s great.
Welp. #AquamanAndTheLostKingdom was awful. I hate being critical when hundreds of people make art, but this is just a huge miss. It was 40% Aquaman quipping and 60% video game cutscene. And not good cutscenes, just Goes On Forever cutscenes. I was looking for the Skip button.
I have no idea how a new feature in a piece of #FOSS software works.
The good news is I can review the PRs for it to check the implementation.
The bad news is I have to review the PRs for it to check the implementation.
