OpenPassageways,

Picked up Talos Principle 1 and 2 for 20$. Really enjoying the first one so far. It’s like Portal but more serious, makes you feel really clever, lots of “outside the box” thinking.

OpenPassageways,

I use Slack for personal projects and Teams for work. I think both are fine. The main reason it made sense to use Teams at work was because there were a number of products in use by different teams. IT had Slack and the rest had Zoom. Zoom was raising their costs and we already had Teams as part of 0365. So it was either buy Slack licenses for the entire company or just get everyone on Teams. It was kind of a no-brainer and it was hard to come up with a convincing argument to pay for Slack for everyone other than “Microsoft bad”.

OpenPassageways,

I haven’t seen an AWD EV more affordable than the M3 yet, and the last I checked the nearest supercharging station is only for Teslas.

For me NOT buying from a scummy car dealership is also part of my criteria.

So it looks like it’s basically a choice between Tesla and Rivian for me and there’s a big price difference.

Would be interested to check out some other options though.

OpenPassageways,

Although it does feel like rage bait and they’re making money off the clicks/engagement…

If it’s true that they are

  • reporting something that he said
  • didn’t take him out of context
  • adding additional context
  • didn’t explicitly tell the reader one opinion or another

that would be good journalism right?

OpenPassageways,

Yeah, it’s not a terrible idea. Another idea is to send the message that the Republicans will continue to lose the popular vote by 10+ million votes if they don’t start putting forth solutions to the real problems that Americans are concerned about.

OpenPassageways,

No fan of Musk, but this kind of shit and other scams are driving me towards companies like Tesla that are using a direct sale model.

Subaru dealers lied to me about the engine I was getting, said the head gasket issue was fixed. Turns out it was fixed, just not for the model of engine that was in the specific car they were selling me.

Then a different dealer did the head gasket job, thousands of dollars, and now they’re telling me it needs to be done again four years later for another 5k.

A local Chevy dealer was screwing over their employees with wage theft by agreeing to give raises and then quietly taking them away later.

Fuck them all to hell, small business my ass. If you have to spend millions lobbying your state government to make direct sales illegal, I’m going to do everything I can to avoid giving you my money.

Tarallo - selfhostable FOSS Trello alternative (feddit.it)

Hi! For the ones of you that use Trello, I made a simple to use and host alternative in PHP. It’s not a complete alternative like other projects, and I mainly made it to be able to host it on free PHP web servers while having control over data/attachments. It also support a basic importer for Trello JSON exports....

It’s been nearly 10 years since you needed to develop with C# on Windows.

New versions of .NET have been cross platform with a free IDE since 2016.

OpenPassageways,

I agree but that would require Congress to do something. Trying to accomplish this through executive actions alone might not actually work, but it at least shows voters clearly which party is willing to take action on this issue, and hopefully we will end up with a Congress that is more in line with the will of the people.

OpenPassageways,

might be able to genocide too will genocide even harder and louder

Fixed that for you. Vote for who you want, but don’t pretend that there’s any question about Trump’s stance on the issue. He’s publicly called for the final solution to be applied to Palestinians, and people in his party are telling their supporters that they think Gaza should be nuked like Nagasaki.

If Trump narrowly wins the election and the Palestinians suffer even more, wouldn’t you feel the slightest bit guilty for staying home?

OpenPassageways,

If they called it cleanup mode, or guest mode, it would be more accurate.

Use this when you are on a shared device so that you don’t leave history or login sessions or mess with any sessions that the primary user has. That’s it.

OpenPassageways,

I’m assuming you’re referring to the dangers of being “put under” right? Another commenter mentioned local anaesthetic… I don’t think dentists are shying away from that and it seems appropriate for these situations.

OpenPassageways,

I find it’s easier to explain this to people as “Southern conservatives used to vote Democrat, now they vote Republican”.

OpenPassageways,

Bought it for Xbox One and was disappointed, never got into it. Last year got a new gaming PC and picked it up on sale and playing it in 4k on high and the graphics are sick and now that I’ve figured out the combat I like it a lot. There’s lots to love about the game, but the story just isn’t great, doesn’t really suck me in that much.

OpenPassageways,

What helped for me was to just focus on consistency of activity first and foremost. Making sure I have a consistent 1hr a day fitness plan that I don’t hate, and use a fitness watch to look at streaks over time so you don’t want to break them. For me upper/lower splits every other day helped make sure I get enough core/legs in because I was always skipping leg day. I try to do the major compound movements and supplement with additional stuff if there is time… Pushups, pullups, squats, deadlifts. I’ve also been doing intervals on the exercise bike so 3 min of bike for every 7 minutes of lifting

I started to see results after a few months, but it’s only recently that I’ve started to pay more attention to what I’m eating. I think it’s good to get the consistent activity down first before you worry about cutting and calorie deficits. That way whatever you’re doing, mentally you know you can do it even if you feel more physically fatigued.

I also didn’t realize just how much protein I really needed, didn’t see much in the way of results until I started to eat around .8g protein per pound of body weight. Chicken, salmon, low-fat Greek yogurt, egg whites, and some protein bars/shakes… I found it wasn’t that hard to stay around 2000 calories and still eat 160+ g of protein.

I’m probably going to eventually get a fitness and nutrition coach because my health insurance will likely cover it, just to have additional confidence in what I’m doing.

OpenPassageways,

If definitely seems dystopian, but hopefully this ends up helping some people who are quadriplegic.

OpenPassageways,

I mostly agree with this. I guess the argument against this is that if all rent-seekers just sold their properties instead of treating them as an income stream, then theoretically there would be more properties on the market and properties would be more affordable for those who want to buy.

To me, individuals choosing to sell instead of rent-seek would have such a small impact on the market, and those properties would just be bought by corporations that will rent-seek.

It seems clear to me that if we really want to fix things, we should ban corporations from buying single family homes instead of attacking working class people who are trying to build a passive income stream.

OpenPassageways,

Yes, a passive income stream means that I would be able to live off the investments that I worked my ass off for when I was young and healthy. How else does someone ever retire without some sort of passive income stream? Are you saying everyone should have to work until the day they die?

And yes, I’d have to pay people to maintain the properties I’m renting out, as the law in my state requires. Because I’ll be old and retired and may not be able to do it myself.

Having passive income and being able to retire is a big part of the American dream for me. I can’t count on Social Security and Medicare to even exist with the way things are going. How else would I retire if I don’t have investments that make money? Property is part of that, stocks that pay dividends are another part of that.

I guess if you’re so radical that you don’t think any investment should ever have a return to the investor, then your position makes sense.

Should our entire government and economy be geared towards profiting off investments at the expense of everything else? Definitely not.

Should people be able to retire on investments that they busted their asses for while they were young and healthy? Absolutely.

Should corporations be able to invest in residential homes and rent-seek? No, I believe this can be harmful and hurt individuals, but that doesn’t mean that we should try to prevent individuals from investing in real estate.

OpenPassageways,

Just flew on two flights both 737 Max 8.

I figure after a disaster there is more scrutiny, so these could be the safest planes to fly on right now.

OpenPassageways,

One of the defining characteristics of Southwest is that they ONLY fly 737s (Boeing). That and their focus on domestic flights helps them offer good rates and low/non-existent fees. I guess their maintenance only has to focus on one plane. However, it seems like they got caught up in Boeing’s “737 MAX is the same plane” scam because they fly some of those too and I believe it affected their stock.

OpenPassageways,

Ah yes, my last company bought into that crap. They called it RPA for Robotic Process Automation and they also used it to access internal apps that we had full control of.

It wouldn’t have been so bad if they just used it to enter data into third party websites which had no APIs or integrations.

At one point we updated the title of an HTML page and we had to revert the change because the RPA team said it would be a three week turnaround to fix their script.

I noped out of there not long after, it was yet another “project management driven” company where managers and project managers were repeatedly duped by vendors and outsourcing firms instead of hiring and retaining developers.

OpenPassageways, (edited )

Wouldn’t it make more sense to move to a swing state and try to tip it blue?

Edit: tip it blue

OpenPassageways,

Biden will NOT destroy democracy if he wins, Trump will bomb children even harder if he wins. How is this so hard for people to understand? It’s one thing if you want to register a protest vote against the two party system, but don’t pretend that the administration’s stance on Israel is your reason when the opponent’s position is even worse. Do people just forget that Trump kissed Bibi’s ass and moved the embassy to Jerusalem as a big F U to the Palestinians and as a virtue signal to his base?

OpenPassageways,

You misunderstand, my point is that the Trump will destroy democracy, Biden won’t. Both will likely allow the genocide to go largely unchallenged.

So it’s not a matter of conscience when we don’t have a real choice in the matter.

In fact, I don’t think my conscience could stomach seeing Trump kiss Bibi’s ass for another four years. At least there is SOME movement from the administration on the issue even if it’s just lip service.

OpenPassageways,

I’m using this one and like it. Chairs in a similar price range from Staples just didn’t have all the right adjustments that this one has.

OpenPassageways,

I really like the overall world building of the Revelation Space universe. I’m currently reading Machine Vendetta which came out recently and is in somewhat of a prequel series for Revelation Space. Some of the Demarchist communities described in the Glitter Band are really wacky.

The various factions, planets, concepts, etc. are all great. It’s a great universe for short stories and there are some good anthologies.

However… I think I actually enjoyed Reynolds’ Revenger series a lot more in terms of the individual characters and their stories. If someone forced me to pick out only three books from Reynolds for you to read, it would be the three books in the Revenger trilogy.

I’d also recommend another series from him which starts with Blue Remembered Earth.
