telnet mapscii.me is the coolest thing you'll see all day, maybe all week.

@zhenech @Zugschlus hjkl and a/z worked for me, but a/z was after I clicked around with the mouse. I don't know if the two are related.

@lunareclipse a/z or mouse wheel

Another one for the , , and maybe bubble:

What, if any, are the considerations when selecting a reasonably priced decent quality cleaning bath?

Use case would be to clean and degrease/deoil small tools, glasses, watches, etc. Maybe a second unit some day to experiment with e.g. wood-chip infused milk; that second unit would remain food-safe.

I didn't get much farther than "probably stainless steel, and correct volume" -- and select that from eBay?

RichiH,
@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

@libroraptor interesting thought.. does that set-up dampen the waves in some way? I'd prefer to have a small unit (I think?) because I don't plan on using it often and don't want to throw out large quantities of cleaning agent regularly -- but that could be achieved with that setup.

For food stuff, I would still get a second unit. No handling process is as secure as simply not mixing use.

@xuxxux @funkylab many, many moons ago I read about people dropping wood chips into full-fat milk to create apple milk. It's also apparently used for speed-aging Whisk[e]y and such with burnt wood chips.

I have never tried it myself, but would like to.

Has anyone managed to successfully titrate whelming?

Everyone talks about being over- or underwhelmed but nobody ever gets the whelm level just right so everyone's happy.

RichiH,
@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

@azonenberg fwiw, I have used "I am whelmed" for generic neutrallly neutral feelings for years.

Note to self: do not, under any circumstances, clean the inside of your brand new spice mill with your finger.

But I have a chili and a spice mill now so that's a plus.

I was thinking about bucket lists and realised most of mine are stuff like "see a brown bear in the wild" and "see a rosy maple moth in real life". animals are so good.

@gsuberland svalbard in winter. 10/10 would recommend even though I saw neither

@gsuberland you can only ever see the entrance -- trust me, I tried -- but it's still mesmerizing in person.

@rdivyanshu @shantanugoel nice, have fun

RichiH,
@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

@rdivyanshu @shantanugoel you might want to print maybe 3x the amount to be able to play with larger tilings.

does anybody make a translucent darkish green PLA? like the old late 90s controllers would use sometimes?

example controller pic for color reference:

RichiH,
@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

@lambtor you need PVB for the fully transparent effect

Very real scenario: I’m spinning up something completely greenfield; do I go Terraform or OpenTofu?

One of those clearly preserves optionality in ways the other does not.

RichiH,
@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

@Quinnypig try OpenTofu I'd say. Development velocity seems to be as low as OpenSearch et al, but there's decent parity for now.

@fleaz Ahoi, wo ich gerade das Label sah: Hast du Empfehlungen für ein Label-Drucker?

RichiH,

@johannwagner_ @fleaz Brother P-Touch, Rest kommt auf Anforderungen und Budget an

RichiH,
@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

@fleaz @johannwagner_ was für AliExpress kannst du empfehlen?

In the past when I've done correlations between many (10,000s) of values, I've done this sort of histogrammy approach. Does anyone know

  1. Is there a real name for this kind of plot? and

  2. Is there an R function/package that makes this easy?

My initial searches haven't turned up anything although I swear I found something relevant in the past… @rstats

Version 1.20 of @fdroidorg brings some pretty big changes of how repositories are handled:

• official repo is always preferred
• the repo an app comes from is prominently shown
• if an app is available from more than one repo, you can choose where to get it from
• power users can change global repo priorities

#fdroid

@grote where is that information pulled from? Do I need to do anything other than upgrade to 1.2?

Assembling the trigger crossbar board over lunch.

Not thrilled with the paste print quality, very inconsistent. the top left corner was way too thick as the board flexed during printing, the middle BGA skipped some pads, and the WLCSP in the bottom right was near perfect.

These big boards bend too much in my paste fixture, I need to find a way to prevent that before I do any more boards of this scale.

RichiH,
@RichiH@chaos.social avatar

@azonenberg ah, one of the classics for network engineers.

"I'll just tcpdump to STDOUT real quick. Oh.. oh no..."

Consider it a rite of passage
