Opened up Apostrophe to edit a README and it launched in its sleek 3.0 version. Life is good.

@jimmac what’s with the “make apps not themes” and “make apps not extensions” hashtags? i thought people were against distros shipping unsupported themes by default (which is a reasonable concern) but are people against customization in general now?

I just remembered that fonts can contain webassembly shaping instructions now. Supported in Harfbuzz.

Before you panic, remember that font engines already support significant parts of the SVG spec and extremely advanced shaping/hinting instructions (the latter of which are basically their own programming language).

I’m not saying you shouldn’t panic. I’m saying that you should also be aware of that before you do.

Anybody know of (ideally mobile-friendly) FOSS forum software (besides mailing lists) that doesn’t have a copyright-granting CLA or open-core model? Discourse, Flarum, and Nodebb require a CLA.

I’m aware of phpBB and bbj (read-only web UIs are available; no read-write web UIs).

Seirdy,
@Seirdy@pleroma.envs.net avatar

@jacqueline Are there accessible mobile-friendly themes? I’d ruled this out earlier since the defaults weren’t responsive.

@badrihippo @strypey I should anend this to clarify that Cloudflare itself has gotten less painful since its registry of good bots has rolled out. Some engines have seen more success after getting on that list.

New bookmark: ActivityPub on a (mostly) static website.

There have been other attempts to document the process of bringing ActivityPub to a (mostly) static site, but this is my favorite so far. I wonder if I should give it a go, if POSSE ever stops serving my needs.

Some user-agents that hit my site this week:

“W3C standards are important. Stop fucking obsessing over User-Agent already.”

sorry.

“I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said–\x22Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my User-Agent, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

i’m happy for you, or sorry that happened.

If you want corporate email servers to reach your email address that isn’t one of the big dozen-or-so email providers, you need to post your email to social media or put it on your homepage and leave it there for a year. That’s why my main personal email receives messages when my aliases often don’t.

So to get outgoing-spam-filters to accept you, you must welcome spam.

Seirdy,
@Seirdy@pleroma.envs.net avatar

The state of email spam filters is so comically hostile. It’d take way too much effort to do something comparably atrocious to Fedi.

Seirdy,
@Seirdy@pleroma.envs.net avatar

For those wondering about the (dubious) rationale: an email address that has been publicly tied to a business’ identity (ofc the only senders with silly domains are businesses because normal people use gmail.com /s) is less likely to be a source of spam and more likely to be an official contact.

Every commercial spam lookup tool checks a database for emails scraped from social media and homepages. The more scraped entries over time, the higher the reputation. Your spam score depends on how much spam you welcome in.

In other words: if you get a lot of emails from SEOs and marketers wanting to write guest posts for your blog, you probably have a good spam score.
