When I'm trying to be a decent person, but people are testing me:

@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@RickiTarr @OhOkKay listening to Rush, eating ketchup chips, the feeling of ice under skates on a crisp morning, and the feeling when the head is finally sawed off and you're holding it in your hand by the scalp, these are all things which connect and bind me and my Canadian brothers and sisters

The forecast said no rain for the next hour, so we took JJ for a walk.

Yup. You guesed it. It started raining.

After we got back he asked for a towel by rubbing against whatever he could find. He was happy to see the towel.

Water falling from the sky is just wrong.

What's a good movie to watch with your Mom?

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@tantramar @RickiTarr my mom loved the King so much and also had his movies; I remember back in 1982 or so when buying your own VHS movie was weird she spent 100, 1982 dollars, on a vhs of Jailhouse Rock. It's because of Mom when I look at a list of Elvis movies there's maybe 5 I haven't seen. My favorite 'deep cut' is Charo, my favorite "so bad it's good" is Stay Away Joe, and my favorite b&w is King Creole

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@tantramar @RickiTarr at that time consumers paid what video stores paid and video stores paid WAY MORE - at least that's how it worked in Canada - I wonder if that practice continued onwards through VHS and DVD sales or if that was just a "we're figuring this out" glitch of the early days? But yeah that's what she was told.
I bet our mortgage was 300$ at the time hahaha

Today is the 50th anniversary of the day baseball player Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's all-time home run record. Here's a @Flipboard Storyboard to honor the occasion. In the words of announcer Vin Scully: "What a marvelous moment for baseball. What a marvelous moment for Atlanta and the state of Georgia. What a marvelous moment for the country and the world. A Black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol.”

I SAVED ACE'S FOR LAST as a reward for listening to well especially Peter's ....
99% of people would say the classic on here is "New York Groove" and so I'll go along with them but I REALLY REALLY like the spacey, echo laden "I'm In Need Of Love" it's really awesome and druggy
It just occurred to me listening to "Speedin Back To My Baby" the only solo record that doesn't use female backup vocals is Paul!

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@Defiance people say that. I say the best song is "In Need Of Love"a

@philsplace Did a day-trip with a friend from Calgary down to Butte in 2016, through Glacier National Park and Missoula. Beautiful country. Took a sketching stop along the way: https://cbmackay.ca/2016/07/25/mount-oberlin-montana/

I've been whining for a month about this massive leaning oak tree across the street "that's gonna fuck something up" and now there's tree guys who have cut it down and are chainsawing off the branches and shit and now I'm like AH FUCK I'M TRYING TO WORK hahaha I'm just like my mother she's never satisfied

SpaceAce, to random
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

one thing that stops me from fully embracing 'old man yelling at clouds' were the "old" punk rockers in my town when I was in high school and listening to whatever Husker Du and whatnot and there were these guys who were so old they were probably 26 AHAHAH telling me "Yeah Husker Du were better when they were the Buzzcocks" and all this crap "Why does anyone do hardcore music after The Germs" and while I thank them for turning me onto good music I also thought and still do FUCK YOU

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

i NEVER want to be the old guy like that so I fully accept there may be amazing music put out today but because of whatever, I can't hear it - it's not for me! You know, Mahler was frightened of Schoenberg but he also said to himself "wow this is where music is going, I don't know if I like it but that's history for you" (paraphrasing)

Still ~6 hours left of , which means there's time to remind you that every $ you spend on Spotify/Deezer/Apple Music/etc streaming subscriptions goes to make some rich prick richer (either an executive at those companies or a musician like Taylor Swift who doesn't need more money), while every $ you spend at Bandcamp goes almost entirely to the artist. If you love music, you should be spending at least as much on direct-to-artist payments as you are on streaming every month.

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@etherdiver no not at all I just wanted to get records with cool postmarks !

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@etherdiver I just learned how to narrow down searches to geographic locations so I recently got records on bandcamp from the Yukon and Prince Edward Island

the only solid things about airbnb that i can determine is it's easy to get food delivered, and they have great and secure wifi i trust usually, and it's all paid in advance and once you click click click on the websites you never have to pull out your card again - otherwise i am all about hotels and no binders of rules and bullshit

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@nlarson830 @LikeItOrLumpIt the "not having to whip your card out when you check in for incidentals and find out there's been a 200$ hold for 5 days" is really nice.

SpaceAce,
@SpaceAce@esoteric.party avatar

@nlarson830 @LikeItOrLumpIt we've done about 20...22 it says on our airbnb. some have been fantastic. a couple i walked out of before i even unpacked my suitcase. YES AC HAS BEEN AN ISSUE. we're planning a trip now and i won't stay in any airbnb more than 1 night in a row - for those stops we'll use hotels - 1 night, if it's crap we can bail or just put up with it, depending.
