Happy 2nd Birthday :corteximplant: !!! 🥳🎉 It's been a great 2 years, although I've only been here for 1 and a half of them. :holdthepain:

I'm really happy and proud to be part of the community that has grown here, and I echo all the sentiments that @lucy posted earlier. I have never had a social media experience like the one I found here, and within 2 days of joining :corteximplant_b: I knew I had made a good decision for my "home" instance!

For those of you young'uns out there, this place is a lot like what things felt like back in the early days of the 'net and combined with all the other OTS stuff in the "family" has given me back an excitment that I lost so many long years ago. It's good to be here, with good folks, with lots of diverse interests but also lots of shared passion from all over the world.

I'm glad to be a part of it, and I'm so glad that everyone on decided to be a part of it too!

And much thanks to @revengeday for opening up his hobby project to us and giving all of us nomads a base camp to call home. You're a true street samurai, choom! :samurai: :silverhand:

@revengeday "I'll be back....for all your :durstloescher_mystery: ."

Fun fact, that's also why the Predator came here and how Ahhhhhhnold knew how to fight it: "If it bleeds :durstloescher: , we can kill it."

Hope all y'all Terraform users out there got some deep pockets, cuz that choice might start to cost you soon...

So this means that when the deal is done, IBM will own Ansible, Terraform, Vagrant, and Vault. They've basically just acquired a complete DevOps stack which (I think) is all the industry standard stuff. Kinda makes me feel queasy for some reason...

And all it's going to take is one money-hungry exec or product manager to make that open-source software that everybody uses not be so open anymore....

Ever since I got a proper mechanical keyboard (not pre-built), I realize how bad the MacBook keyboard is. I wish there was a MacBook where I could just swap out the switches and caps :D

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@revengeday I think your only recourse is to build a cyberdeck. The pre-built tech world - especially Apple - is still in love with sleek and quiet. They don't care so much about feel. :key_cream: :key_lavender: :key_bananasplits:

@kaiserkiwi @hagbard @jadedtwin @BustaMarx I think it's time to either get me a Flipper Zero and learn how to use it for ECM self-defense or start working on personal EMP pulse grenades or something. The trouble is going to be how to work that EMP thing to where it only disables the hotdog and its operator's controller and not all my own personal electronics.

Maybe some sort of focused EMP blaster gun?

SynAck,

@kaiserkiwi @hagbard @jadedtwin @BustaMarx And who knows, maybe the :corteximplant: meetup doubles as a "house hunting for SynAck" trip. 🤔

It's a sketch spoofing Shark Tank where I approach the stage with some platters full of delicious burgers and I’m like "I love a good burger, but the beef industry is terrible for the environment and we should all be trying to live a more compassionate lifestyle, so I created an alternate solution to solve this problem!"

And then the sharks try my burgers and are like "This is delicious! What is this made from?!?"

And I’m like "Kittens. It's made from kittens!"

Testing out some prints for a patch on my vest with some fabric ink. Now I know which way I prefer to print things, I'll clean them up with fabric ink later and leave them to cure.

I wish I used the harder material over the soft stuff because it was hard to get any details. :kekw:

I have 5 of these. I don't know what to do with the spares. lol but it was fun.

The cortex implant logo in white fabric ink on black fabric.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@LevelUp Are you sure there's not actually a band called that? Makes logical sense that after all this time, somebody would have thought of that. :bec_grin: But even if they do, it would be a good conversation starter about all things cyberpunk!

"I'll be there between 6pm and 7pm"

Ideas only neurotypical people can have. That's a whole 60 minutes of uncertainty. 3,600 seconds, someone could ring the bell.

If they aren't late.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi Ugh, I hate days like this, and I especially hate it when not even common courtesy is extended to customers. They make us take time off from our livelihoods to wait on them, and then they can't even be bothered to make good on their commited time.

Super frustrating. I feel you. I hope that it at least comes on the next time that they told you, on Friday (even though it totally sucks to have to wait a week).

Shout out to @SynAck.

Sometimes he sounds like an old wise sensei, and I really love this. This helped me many times already to get another view on a topic. Sometimes it helped to solve the issue entirely.

At times I want to sit with him on a bench in front of a lake and just talk to him for hours.

Sad that the Fediverse can only connect us via the internet but isn't able to reduce the physical distance between people we like or admire.

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi Thank you so much for the kind words! :cyberheart_green: I'm glad to know that all my random posts aren't just seen as so much crotchety old man mutterings (although I'm sure there's a fair amount of that also) and that all this life experience is helpful to somebody besides me. :kekw:

I too enjoy the different perspectives that I gain by interacting with y'all! There aren't too many days where I don't learn something new by just being here in this community, and I'd say that I've become a better person for being here. I've grown a lot also thanks to people here. I feel like I'm back in my uni days. :bec_grin:

And if all goes as planned, maybe we can score some "bench time" in September. :bec_wink:

@kaiserkiwi privatization in the name of competition in a place where money makes the rules.

The American version of capitalism centers the self and pushes all other altruistic tendencies to the wayside. Everything and everyone has a dollar amount associated with it/them here.

It's maddening.

I really like this post. Over the past 17 (oof nearly 18) years I've pretty much seen every archetype that is mentioned here.

And also had the situation multiple times where the management loved the negatively framed types while the other devs were annoyed.

https://www.simplethread.com/the-10x-programmer-myth/

SynAck,
@SynAck@corteximplant.com avatar

@kaiserkiwi That's how I knew I was finally ready to make the jump out of directly technical work - I realized that I would rather build a team that could make something great, and who is better at software dev than I am, than to be the one writing the code. I have a lot more fun educating and mentoring teammates than actually writing code (at least for profit on a timetable).

For example, I'd really like to educate people on the realities of the mythical 10X developer and why it's a bad mindset. And then help junior devs learn how to be good, solid devs and not just code fountains because they'll burn out much faster. :bec_wink:
