Ultraviolet,

For example maybe you need a working time machine at your destination, such that the earliest point possible to travel to is the moment the first time machine was switched on.

Ultraviolet,

The inherent flaw is that the dataset needs to be both extremely large and vetted for quality with an extremely high level of accuracy. That can’t realistically exist, and any technology that relies on something that can’t exist is by definition flawed.

It’s worth clarifying that the Palestinian civilians are not Hamas though. It’s also misleading to say they elected them democratically, as the median Palestinian was a literal infant when the last election happened, and nearly half weren’t even born.

Ultraviolet,

“Ah yes, the start of World War 1.”

“World War what now?”

I wouldn’t trust Sony to have kernel access.

Remember when every platform renamed PMs to DMs and everyone who pointed out that they’re trying to remove the expectation of privacy was “paranoid”?

Ultraviolet,

Of course. Good thing those that work forces and those that burn crosses are two entirely different groups and totally do not overlap.

Ultraviolet,

Remember the 13 billion years before you were born? More of that.

Ultraviolet,

Because it’s just a text prediction engine, the only training data it has about taking a goat across the river is a well-known puzzle involving a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage, so it just regurgitates the solution to that.

Ultraviolet,

I remember how people used to joke about the second page of Google results being a desolate wasteland where no one ever looks, now I just instinctively scroll down a bit because I know the first page of results is going to be trash.

Ultraviolet,

It’s the fact that it could just be a checkbox in search settings, but they make it as hidden as humanly possible, not only is it in the registry, but it’s not an existing flag you can change, it’s a flag you have to know the exact name of to add. It only takes a minute if you’re the type of person to be here commenting on a Linux meme on Lemmy, but to the average user, the option almost doesn’t exist.

Ultraviolet,

Or do what they do for traffic tickets and attach points to violations. After enough points, revoke the company’s right to operate, and if it’s critical, nationalize it.

Ultraviolet,

I thought he was funny playing a petty, egotistical asshole as a character. It became a lot less funny after realizing he’s just like that.

Ultraviolet,

“Choose” is a very loaded word here. Yes, technically, they have a choice between wearing a hijab and an alternative, but what is that alternative? For someone in a conservative Muslim community, there is an extreme stigma against choosing not to wear a hijab, so it’s a choice between wearing one or being shunned. If it’s a theocratic country, it’s a choice between wearing one and death. Yes, technically a choice, but no more of a choice than being robbed at gunpoint and “choosing” to empty your pockets to not be shot in the head.

Ultraviolet,

We really should have some sort of law that if you hold any high office of government, your immediate family (maybe for 2 generations) is permanently barred from serving in a similar capacity. Some sort of anti-dynasty law.

Ultraviolet,

Yes. Do you think this is some sort of gotcha? Only right wingers want rules that only apply to one side.

Ultraviolet,

Lizardman constant. You’d probably have about 3% answering yes in California or Maine as well.

Ultraviolet,

You don’t need to do a conversion, you can just learn them intuitively. 0 is dangerously cold, 10 is cold, 20 is comfortable, 30 is hot, 40 is dangerously hot.

Ultraviolet,

What a terrible thing to suggest. If you want to dissolve the fascists properly, you use a base. An acid leaves an identifiable body.

Ultraviolet,

It should be worth 5 points (half a goal, so it functions as a tiebreaker), but still end the game when caught. That way, the team in the lead is trying to catch it, and the team that’s behind is trying to prevent the opposing seeker from catching it to buy time to close the gap. It’s still important that way, you can’t win the game without it, but the rest of the team is also contributing.

Ultraviolet,

That rule doesn’t actually exist in English. It’s a Latin rule that some British asshole in the 1800s wanted to impose on English because he believed that Latin was a perfect language and anything that works differently from Latin is a flaw to be corrected.
