Powerful. Personal. Private. It’s a web browser. But fun. It comes with a bunch of clever features built in. It’s super flexible and does not track you. Get the Vivaldi browser for desktop, mobile, and your car!

Okay I knew Opera browser was bad but I had no idea how crazy the situation was until reading this.

Are there sponsored sites on @Vivaldi speed dial now? I have hotels.com and Expedia on mine and I didn’t put them there.

@goombashoes
The browser has always come with partner bookmarks, which we hope you find useful, but have the freedom to replace with your own Speed Dial bookmarks.

Hey @Vivaldi, I don't suppose there's something on the horizon that would let me import a .md file to my Vivaldi notes from a command line? Realizing that's probably pretty niche, but I can think of a LOT that I would do with it.

Vivaldi,
@Vivaldi@vivaldi.net avatar

@mike Nope, nothing like that in the pipeline, AFAIK.
You can create a feature request for it on the Forum, though. If there are plenty of upvotes, we can look into it.

Earlier this week, I wrote about the best browser you're (maybe) not using, @Vivaldi

https://medium.com/@bluesabre/the-best-browser-youre-not-using-93e4aad58b18

Considering that my followers are mostly Linux, specifically Xfce folks, you'll love all the features and customization options. It also lacks all the AI, crypto, and tracking nonsense you try to avoid.

@bluesabre Thank you for taking the time to do your research and write about why you like using our browser. 🙏

Is Microsoft's new feature a privacy nightmare?

Microsoft recently announced ‘Recall’, a feature that lets Windows users to search for content across time on their PCs.

According to Microsoft, Recall takes screenshots every five seconds, which are then stored locally.

However, it's unclear if these will be used for model training, cloud backups, or online analysis.

Our developer and privacy expert, Tarquin Wilton-Jones, shares his take with @theregister ⬇️

https://www.theregister.com/2024/05/22/windows_recall/

What do you think about this feature? Tell us in the comments section 👇

Yes! It's not the default setting, but you can select between system notifications, in browser dialogs and couple of cool effects.

@Vivaldi why can't I haz smooth scrolling (OSX)? 🤔

Vivaldi,
@Vivaldi@vivaldi.net avatar

@miles_leif
AFAICT (and I'm basing it on old information I could find on this topic), it's disabled because on macOS, unlike other platforms, smooth scrolling is enabled regardless of that flag.
