Planes need taxes and externalities costs included also, to get a true price.

Yes trains use more infrastructure but that is largely a fixed cost. I wonder what the marginal cost of running a train on a near full capacity line is verse a plane.

Deflation is a bad thing. It also doesn’t necessarily mean things get more affordable for people.

It’s a serious issue and is not good for the country or the people in the country.

In fact it’s usual that the central banks main goal is to stop deflation. That’s why central banks are usually separated from government policy also. Deflation is such a huge concern the central bank can overrule the wishes of the government and put in measures that will lead to a recession. Deflation is worse than recessions.

Economics is a lot more complicated than all the memes on this website of. Capitalism bad, communism good.

I get your point. But I see what you have said as two independent points.

The way the world is set up deflation is a bad thing, pretty unanimously.

But unrelenting capitalism is a bad thing I agree. But it’s separate. Is kind of like saying “we need to get better at football by kicking the ball better” but then saying “the game is stupid you should be able to use your hands”. I agree the game is stupid but I wouldn’t disagree in the rules of football being better and kicking makes you better at the game, even if the rules should be changed.

Me personally. I have a degree in economics and I don’t see governments or international relationships working without a strong basis on capitalism. But I also agree that the system is at a point where capitalism has created enough wealth in the economy something needs to be fundamentally changed. People should work less, spend less (but buy better quality, reparable products), have more community, correct the market this strong externalities and even maybe UBI.

But I’m not celebrating depreciation and reduced consumer spending because the world we are in that means it’s a bad thing.

I was reading a book on social life of the upper-middle class and new rich of the American 1920s and realized so many things we now do proudly were considered socially taboo back then. This was especially the case for clothing, makeup, women in certain public spaces, etc. What do you think will be different in the 2120s? Or...

How is this not more of a thing? All these countries that didn’t exist until Europe organised them have grown and matured (in a way). But plenty of countries complain about how the boarders were made, why don’t they sort them out and change things?

Like nothing is stopping them from doing it. Blaming it on someone 100 years ago that is long dead isn’t stopping anything from happening.

Okay. I’m going to be stupid and ask the basic question

I’m on lemm.ee and my feed is interesting enough so if I fuck with it I could make it worse.

But let’s say I want to see more of lemmy.ml/c/asklemmy (or something smaller) on my feed how do I do that?

I was going to wait for an app and go from there. But I’m not sure which one has swam to the top of most recommended (I used rif on Reddit and enjoyed that)

If there was a party that was left economically and for the people in the country. Far right parties wouldn’t be winning.

You made that up. That’s not true.

I don’t know what other points you are making. Plenty of “other” countries have nuclear and none of them can do it cheaply.

Well of course you can build them when price is no concern.

But when price matters nuclear is too expensive.

Nuclear has huge investment since 1940’s and tonnes of money is still going into it. More money is not going to help anytime soon. It’s just throwing good money at bad. I’m not saying it won’t be cracked eventually. But with the limited time and money in the system wind and solar are obviously the answers.

Capitalism can easily solve the problem with externalities. Very few people that support capitalism wouldn’t also support government investment so the fact that capitalist governments have funded capital gains is not at all a failure of capitalism. That would be like saying governments funding schools to increase human capital to raise more taxes is a failure of capitalism. In fact it is the optimal solution for all even in a capitalist society.

There is always wind or solar. If you build enough of it they the low points aren’t that low anymore. There is still huge amounts of hydro on most continents. We are not even 10% of the way to where we need to be with renewables. The fact that they only offset gas some of the time doesn’t mean they won’t ever work, it just means we haven’t built enough yet.

Lots of countries have city hot water. It’s a simple concept. I don’t there there is that much heat wasted covering that many people in such a small area.

I just wondered about the economics. I think most of the current ones use waste heat from electricity generation
