I’m a #gaymer who loves romps in the digital world! Books, Creative Writing, Anime/Manga, Movies, and Art help me recharge in-between shifts at work. Despite the fact I’m here to connect to others, anxiety sometimes disrupts jolly conversations.

Today, I discovered my LG washer and dryer have both become disconnected from my wifi network, and to tell you I have never experienced rage until I realized I was going to have to troubleshoot my washer and dryer's fucking wifi connections would be a horrifying understatement.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@keenan Smart appliances were a mistake! No washer and dryer should ever have a need for WiFi connection or firmware that needs updating.

Having sifted through my options between harder and easier, I will likely go with Proton Drive as that will allow me to combine costs into one service. It will save me money, and that makes me quite happy. I will still use a Microsoft account due to having an Xbox and password less login…

However, my reliance on them is greatly lessened. I will be less reliant on Google too, there are some accounts that are a pain in the ass to change. In 2024 that is untenable!

@wendigo We all need to make choices that conform to our use cases and yours certainly makes sense. I'm still surprised that I am this gung-ho about setting foot in the Mac space.

Since I have an Xbox and the games which were Windows only can be played there too; I can safely chuck Windows in the trash.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo Yeah, since I went iPhone; the pieces in my case fell into place due to needing an Apple related thing to maintain my iPhone myself (in case something happened).

From a Desktop hardware perspective, it's well-supported by the Linux Kernel. Due to my unspecialized needs, it can fully remain a Linux machine.

I can see your point as well, it's fairly clear to me, knowing the good things Windows does have and provides...

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo It’s a nice feeling to be free of most of the corporate riff-raff. Ironically, I’m going in the opposite direction from Microsoft to Apple. As they haven’t been the worst with this LLM gold rush…It’s bound to change, but I wouldn’t be using it as my daily driver. Just as a back-up for proprietary software.

May not get to play Destiny 2 until tomorrow, at this rate.

I start work in 2.25 hours.

I don’t usually play after work because I end up staying up too late, but could make an exception I guess.

Otherwise it’ll be tomorrow before work.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Melezioh I have timers set at certain intervals which allow my devices to keep track for me. Thus, I can never get too involved within a game to miss work. Late night is the worst because I have been known to get to bed at 3am!

Tonight, it wouldn't be a problem, as tomorrow is the first out of four days off.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Melezioh I too try to avoid late night gaming after work because it's a trap oftentimes. I get so focused on playing that time melts into the very late hours of the morning.

Gaming before work can be just as dangerous, but if done early enough; I consider pre-work gaming to be a delight.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@Melezioh I have the same bedtime myself! It's good to know that I am not alone in the struggle of bedtime adherence.

Ran into my first issue with Ubuntu, GNOME Tweaks made my system act up on the X session but not Wayland…Of course, this issue happened just as I needed to be out the door!

However, on my way to work I figured out how to reset my mouse cursor to default. A CLI command while not logged in will correct my mouse issue. I will uninstall GNOME Tweaks as it doesn’t play well with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@wendigo True, I could get my hands dirty with dconf editor but if it gnome shell is acting out due to GNOME Tweak…I simply don’t know yet. Better preparation is in order for that CLI journey. 🤣

I did say I wanted to learn and I meant it! I currently have a safety net of my USB Ubuntu installer.

ROFL Of course Sony would make PSN a requirement for their two PC ports, shooting themselves in the foot while running is so clever! A non-starter for me, I won't buy either game even if they decide to make it optional. Can't reward their foolishness.

I got Proton Unlimited sooner than I thought, which is good! Tonight, I’ll transfer my passwords over to Proton Pass and clear all passwords from Microsoft. I will use Microsoft Authenticator for my Microsoft Account, switching the other 2FA accounts to Proton Pass as extra privacy is nice!

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@crcollins I already had the email account and found it to be lovely. The bonuses of a paid account are quite lovely, made even sweeter because Proton has no plans to get heavily involved with LLM BS. 🤩

Finally made the jump to (from Gmail). Glad to finally have full custom domain support (and privacy is cool too I guess 😉).

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@thrickles I’ve loved Proton since I first got it! I’m transitioning my stuff from OneDrive to Proton Drive as I’m pleased with their security and privacy focus. Especially in this current cycle of LLM shilling.

@chris ROFL OMG this is crazy, I can't begin to imagine the shitstorm that is happening within Google right now due to this bold ass employee going rogue. It's a reminder to keep Google out of our personal lives by not having an account with them if possible or use their search engine.

I’m listening to the new Decoder interview with the CEO of Zoom, and I am just flabbergasted at how laughably bleak his AI-first vision for the company is.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

@keenan Yikes, what a garbage take by a CEO but unsurprising. The shilling techbros have been doing about AI (LLMs in disguise) has been extreme to the max. I can't wait until the bust phase of this latest techbro scam is here; one day, they'll realize that AI is a seed we plant today and grow in the future. As so much needs to happen for a sturdy foundation to develop a true AI.

Got most of my stuff from OneDrive in downloading process on my second huge hard drive. Next week, after paying my bills, I will move over to Proton Unlimited for all the perks. Realistically, I need 500G of cloud storage because I will consistently delete any backed up content which is out of date. Documents are really the only thing that I need to keep up to date in the future, I went cloud for most things. Like Apple Music, but I still have a hard copy of my music saved.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds,
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

I will be purchasing an external SSD or HHD for my larger collections of media; likely a 4TB depending on the price. I may even get a larger drive, as one of my media folders is an eye-watering 1TB worth of digital media.

WanderingInDigitalWorlds, to random
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds@mstdn.games avatar

Microsoft is really wanting me to stay on OneDrive, as the zips I have attempted to download have been damaged several times now. This makes me more motivated to remove the majority of my data from their clutches. I've had to individually download each folder at this point, I will succeed at this task.

So in my attempt to get away from Microsoft, due to their bullshit. I am looking into Nextcloud. The installation process seems a bit complicated, but I could likely manage it after reading the instructions repeatedly.

I need to first see how much it will cost per month as a private user to have a Nextcloud Account.

Ugh, Microsoft and Google make it so easy at the cost of privacy. It's time to take chances with self-hosting to have control of my data back!

The Laura Preston essays are always worth a read! She wrote about AI and a conference that techbros and gals have showing off their progress on AI related products. She was the honorary contrarian they nominate every time it's held.

I installed the PPA of LibreOffice because the Snap version is garbage. However, thankfully, the other Snaps I use aren't terrible. I will continue to vary the ways I install programs, using the best versions of each. As this is a good way to approach installing software on Ubuntu!

Day 3: Should books include a content warning?

Only if there is genuine unsettling content in a book that one would not typically expect in a story. Content warnings are good because it allows a reader to make active decisions about the type of material they will be reading. It's a kind thing to do, in my opinion; I wouldn't want to read a story which puts me in a bad state of mind.

Ugh, I broke my system in a special way…Ah the joys of not having used Ubuntu in so long. It’s easy to reinstall; I gave it a good college try on fixing before giving into to an easy way out.

I broke it so bad that I couldn’t access Files, Settings, and System Monitor. At least I know the stuff that won’t compromise Ubuntu 24.04 LTS at the moment.

ROFL, I had the pictures and documents I needed on my HDD. I made more work for myself than necessary! OneDrive has been emptied, and now I will only use Microsoft for the Xbox, Outlook accounts.
