Wrench,

They need a super majority to defeat the inevitable filibuster.

But you should know this, given how unbelievably outspoken you are all over Lemmy on how Biden/Dems are bad.

Wrench,

Great modding there. I said he was “unhinged” and I guess that’s not politely worded enough.

Give me a break.

Wrench,

Was it one of the idiots intentionally drinking raw unprocessed milk to make a point?

Wrench,

When they’re that far gone, there’s no point trying to bring logic into the discussion. You just shrug and agree to disagree.

Wrench,

Dude is in half of Lemmy threads bitching about something. I’m just surprised they didn’t somehow tie this into Biden being bad.

Biden is dramatically out of touch with voters on Gaza. He may lose because of it | Moira Donegan (www.theguardian.com)

Many voters believe, with good reason, that none of this would have happened without Biden’s assent. Biden has continued to speak of Israel’s attack on Palestinian civilians using the absurd language of “self-defense”. He has insulted Jewish Americans and the memory of the Holocaust by invoking them to justify the...

Wrench,

There is zero reason to chase your vote. You will just move the goalposts. It’s like negotiating across the isle with the Republicans. All you’ll do is make compromises that will alienate your base, and then you’ll just pull the football at the last second.

I’m tired of all these “Biden needs to change to get MY vote”. The stakes are obvious. If you’re not on board to make the best of a bad situation, then your vote is already unobtainable.

You are negotiating in bad faith, and it’s obvious to everyone.

Wrench,

My far left friend wrote in Bernies name in 2016.

He did not play stupid games in 2020, and I suspect in 2024, though I haven’t talked to him about it.

As left as he is, he has known what another Trump presidency means since 2021 with no ambiguity. Anyone pretending otherwise at this point isn’t arguing in good faith.

Wrench,

LIDAR would have similarly been degraded in the foggy conditions that this occurred in. Lasers are light too.

While I do think Tesla holds plenty of responsibility for their intentionally misleading branding in FSD, as well as cost saving measures to not include lidar and/or radar, this particular instance boils down to yet another shitty and irresponsible driver.

You should not be relying on FSD over train tracks. You should not be allowing FSD to be going faster than conditions allow. Dude was tearing down the road in thick fog, way faster than was safe for the conditions.

Wrench,

Recently? He’s been a smarmy douche about his success for a very long time.

That syndicated show money has done nothing but inflate his ego.

Wrench,

For that matter, wouldn’t fog impact lidar?

Wrench,

The owner of the Tesla Model 3 claims that the FSD failed to react on passing trains twice in the past six months

Well maybe your stupid ass should be paying attention to the road, especially around potential obstructions, and reducing speed when it’s fucking foggy.

Wrench,

Has to be money laundering. There’s no way their operating costs are over $1B on a shitty Twitter clone with very little traffic

Wrench,

Hahah shit, you’re right. I read 770k as 770m. I guess that ridiculous valuation set my expectations.

327m in expenses is still way too high. But no where near as absurd.

Wrench, (edited )

Ya’ll are only paying $150-$300?

My wife and I are $500 each, and it doesn’t cover much until the yearly 5 figure deductible is hit.

Wrench,

Yep. I said that phrase dozens of times when I was evaluating our options too.

Wrench,

The idea of health insurance is to not go bankrupt if we get sick. A 5 figure bill is not pleasant, but not insurmountable for us.

So if one of us ends up with medical bills for $800k, we’ll spend something like $30k if treatment straddled two years, and our insurance pays the rest (theoretically).

It sucks ass, but health insurance is pretty much useless at general day to day health coverage that costs in the 3-4 figure range. But absolutely essential for the catastrophic life saving coverage that would wipe us out.

Of course, due to in/out coverage bullshit, and insurance companies fighting claims, there’s always the strong possibility we get wiped out anyway. But that’s another discussion.

Wrench,

Just ignore the lemmy.ml users. It’s a very convenient self filter.

Wrench,

Huh. Flirty “Her” terminators to lower your defenses before the kill. Didn’t see that coming.

Wrench, (edited )

The problem with electric gardening tools is they aren’t that feasible for contractors.

Batteries don’t last long and take a long time to charge, so it’s just not an option when you’re working all day. Corded means at every location, you have to figure out outlets, extension cords, fuss with tangles and obstructions, etc.

If you’re doing your own lawns, yeah, you can probably get into a workflow that works for you. But a lot of people hire out for landscaping.

Wrench,

Except being very expensive, wear out after a few years (at best), and being sensitive to being in the hot sun all day every day. All in a profession mostly worked by under privileged people where frugality is a necessity of life.

Wrench,

It’s just a matter of time before Republicans start claiming any video proof of their words and actions are just deep fakes.

Wrench, (edited )

You just described a somewhat progressive leaning liberal.

You believe that the government should stay our of our homes, socially. Progressives have been leading that charge for decades, and moderates have been on board for a while now.

You believe in universal Healthcare and income. Those are very progressive ideals. Those are about as anti libertarian as it gets, because they take away a lot of “individual” freedom, because to fund that, roughly half of your income will need to go to taxes. Maybe more, I haven’t looked at the numbers in a long time, but plenty of current examples to pick from.

You believe in industrial regulation to combat bad actors when necessary. That is a general liberal ideal.

Nothing besides keeping the government away from your personal life is even marginally libertarian. And that’s pretty much the only overlap between libertarianism and liberalism.

This is all from a U.S. point of view.

Wrench,

Uh huh. If aliens were able to reach our solar system, do you think they would give one shit about being seen by a primitive civilization with zero space defenses?

If we’re talking about signs of alien life from deep space scans, do you really think that the scientists that found this evidence, who have spent their life pursuing the better understanding of the galaxy, would keep quiet about it at the behest of whatever government?

Life isn’t that interesting. There’s no massive multi-government conspiracy. We couldn’t even get governments to shut down borders or enforce mandates on wearing mask when a global pandemic of unknown severity was ongoing.

You’ve watched too much fictional media if you think any conspiracy of that level is remotely plausible.

Wrench, (edited )

You understand that this isn’t a feud perpetuated by both sides. This is one side desperately trying to fend off an unprovoked invader.

I did not phrase that as a question, because I know you know this.

But just in case, I’ll say something I’m pretty sure you understand as well.

Cyka blyat

Wrench,

IMO, this illustrates exactly why it’s pointless to chase the Progressive vote.

You will never win over the Genocide Joe, both sides vote. If Biden suddenly met the protestors demands about stopping aid, those same “never vote for genocide” people would just move the goalposts. The arguments would be “well, he supported genocide once, he’ll do it again after the election”, or move on to something like Trans rights, something something Haiti, or whatever the next talking point gets propped up.

These are people you will never win over because they are actively looking for reasons not to vote for either party. And the far right / foreign psyops have fully infiltrated them and lead them around on to the next divisive crusade.
