Wheeler Dealers.cass

This was distributed on cassette, which I normally don't include in the woz-a-day collection. But this was a "white whale" for @A2_Canada, who spent many years searching for an original of this 1978 game by Danielle Bunten Berry, who went on to a long game development career.

The game was shipped with custom controllers, but it is possible to play 2 players in the in-browser emulator.

This is a fun one because the .woz file was created not by analyzing a flux image of an original disk, but by the original developer's master maker program. Several years ago, a "friend of Larry [Sherman]" posted a collection of floppies on eBay which included several maker disks, the source code to several of his games, and — somewhat amusingly — pirated copies of Locksmith, presumably used for testing his own games' protections. You can download the maker disk here:

I was exploring some old Softdisk (magazine-on-a-disk, Apple II) and stumbled on this double hi-res title screen and it's... a lot

Hard to imagine a signal that a website is a rugpull more intense than banning users for trying to delete their own posts

https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/artificial-intelligence/stack-overflow-bans-users-en-masse-for-rebelling-against-openai-partnership-users-banned-for-deleting-answers-to-prevent-them-being-used-to-train-chatgpt

Like just incredible "burning the future to power the present" energy here

@mcc an article went around recently about "rewilding" the Internet that made the analogy to clear cutting an old growth forest. You get incredible wood, but you can only do it once.

Zara, who did nothing wrong, would like a blueberry, on account of her being cute and having done nothing wrong.

@cyningstan It was definitely one of those "creativity springs from constraints" kind of art forms!

I regret to inform you that we have found more software.

Nix is too complicated. I have decided to fork Nix and create a minimal distribution named "Minix"

@mcc I'd like to invest $100 million
