The Head of the Palestinian Mission to the UK's reply to the BBC when asked about Gaza's support for Hamas:

"Pressed repeatedly over support for Hamas in Gaza, Zomlot says most people don't ally with a particular political faction. For those who do, he claims the majority align with Fatah, which runs the PA."

A very subtle lie. Yes Fatah is the majority in the West Bank, but not in Gaza. In fact, they don't exist there. Hamas violently removed them in 2007.

It's absolutely laughable to hear Hamas' leaders tell Gazans not to leave Gaza via the Southern border with Egypt (which has refused them entry except for foreigners/Palestinians with foreign passports) when they are comfortably living out their lives in Doha, Qatar with the finest luxuries that money and diplomatic relations can buy. Utterly depraved, farcical people. Behold the "heroes" of the "resistance".

The chap in charge of Uganda in 1976-78 was just as bad as Hamas today. He even assisted in holding hostage Israeli civilians during the infamous Entebbe raid. Imagine what would have happened to the region if we hadn't removed him. Israel's goal in this war: to remove Hamas, are completely understandable and arguably necessary for lasting peace and security in the region.

There is no such thing as a "clean" war. Only whether or not it was a necessary and objective war with objective results. When my home country invaded Uganda after it invaded and attempted to annex one of our provinces in 1978 (where my father and his family lived), there were civilian casualties on both sides. We committed to invading, occupying & reforming Uganda to make sure it could never endanger us again. No one argues the war's merits on both sides. Now we're partners & at peace.

The funny thing about the Islamic world is that it is almost completely disinterested in what's happening in wrt to the recent earthquakes (with aftershocks and new quakes continuing to occur as we speak). All eyes and ears are on the Middle East because it speaks to their innermost convictions. Which is a shame to say the least, but not surprising. Been there done that. Priorities ๐Ÿ™„

Well here we are. Hamas is holding Palestinian civilians hostage with roadblocks satellite images show.

European news outlets have been claiming a strike on a civilian convoy moving to South Gaza. Here's the video of the attack. No missile strike seen up close. It looks more like a roadside bomb, which is Hamas' speciality. They have every incentive to stop the convoy. They need those human shields. BBC Verify is really trying hard to pin this on the IDF (who weren't operating there at the time) but don't directly attribute it to IDF. They're hedging their hunch.

@falcennial I agree ๐Ÿ’ฏ. I don't envy the IDF leadership though. Despite their advantages, this is going to be tricky nonetheless. Let's see. If they can pull this off, no more rockets from the South, perhaps ever. And maybe, Fatah can be asked to govern a little more responsibly to prevent another extremist group from seizing power again.

โ€œIran sent a message to Israel on Saturday stressing that it does not want further escalation in the Hamas-Israel war, but that it will have to intervene if the Israeli operation in Gaza continuesโ€

The world is in short supply of cooler heads, on all sides. Iโ€™m not liking where this is going at warp speed.

@J12t their plan was to use Hezbollah to attack the Northern frontier but chatter on the ground indicates that the presence of two US warships off the coast has killed that plan in its crib. Hamas is on its own, and it will be dismantled. They're panicking at the moment which is great for the IDF. It'll make things easier.

There is a reason why France banned pro-Palestinian rallies. Not only are they an attractor for the worst antisemites, they endanger people when they inevitably turn violent. Now British Jews and lone Israeli supporters are being mobbed by these pro-Palestinian rallies. How can British authorities expect people to be safe in these circumstances? It's best to restrict protests over this matter until this is all over.

Just to illustrate how repressive governments can be really stupid, in my home country, circumventing content blocks using VPNs is illegal and now citizens and organisations have to self declare their use and their IP address (?!) before the end of the month or be jailed or fined or both. Here's the self declaration form 4 ur amusement. Feel free to spam it ๐Ÿ˜œ.

Now while this is funny, even western countries can enact stupid laws like this. Looking at you & .

Our fellow Tanzanians are still listed as missing or killed in . I cannot imagine what their families are going through right now. What's worse, mosques at home were busy supporting and justifying Hamas' actions during Friday prayers. It's shameful. The country is evenly divided between Muslims and Christians so I can only imagine the arguments happening in bars across the nation right now over this conflict. Oh well.

Qassam Brigades leader said on Aljazeera that Gazan civilians "tagged along" with Hamas forces, and they were the ones who did the kidnapping and the rape which are "against Hamas principles." Hamas is throwing Gaza civilians under the bus in every way possible.

A man-made humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza:

Israel calls for 1.1 million civilians in northern Gaza to evacuate to the south within 24 hours - https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/13/middleeast/israel-gaza-hamas-war-friday-intl-hnk/index.html

Israeli forces dropped about 6,000 bombs on Gaza between October 7 and 12.

Gaza is running out of food, water, electricity and critical supplies after total blockade. https://news.un.org/en/story/2023/10/1142232

Israel uses white phosphorus in Gaza - https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/10/12/israel-white-phosphorus-used-gaza-lebanon

Is there hope that some cooler heads will prevail?

absamma,

@AkaSci unfortunately no. Everyone on the ground is hell bent on dismantling Hamas (and allies have signalled their blessings). Until then, no one in Israel will feel safe. Recruitment for the IDF is the highest it's ever been.

Is a siege automatically illegal under international law? No, it's more complicated than that. There are exceptions where it can be done. It really depends on what you're trying to achieve i.e. the intention of the siege: https://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2023/10/international-law-supports-israel.html

The UK's medical training bodies using convoluted and undocumented Excel sheets to match trainees with institutions explains so much of the dysfunction in their processes. Rotten culture plays a role too, but this is probably the other half of the problem.

According to Hamas' deputy chief, the attack last Saturday was a "preemptive strike" against "only" IDF soldiers "by policy" ๐Ÿคฎ in anticipation of a nonexistent Israeli attack after the Jewish holiday. They're busy spinning lies to justify the Pandora's box they've opened.

If they wanted a fight, they've got one. So much suffering on both sides because of their policy of hate. They must be removed once and for all for everyone's sake.
