Uh, that pop-up is “unpleasant feelings”. Pain, discomfort, bad taste/smell, etc. If you went outside and started eating dirt, your brain would pop-up with “Hey, this tastes yucky, you should stop”

I never read the books, but it was my understanding that the hobbits were more resilient against the ring precisely because they were bumpkins without ambitions that left them open to corruption

I had a free book reward from Thriftbooks, which I used for a copy of Long Dark Teatime of the Soul by Douglas Adams. When it came, I was kinda bummed that some kid had scribbled on the title page, but eh, it was free. At least it was a first edition in otherwise good condition, I won’t complain.

As I was reading, I got a little itch in the back of my mind, and it of curiosity looked up his signature. Turns out, it looks like some kid’s scribbling https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/501fffbd-0af5-47a5-8bbf-2dbac3cdd1dd.jpeg

Probably why no one realized.

So I got a signed first edition, which goes for about $200, totally free.

This can be done, it’s called nuclear fusion and the sun does it constantly. The practical limitation is, largely, overcoming the electrostatic force.

Basically, because the atoms are similarly charged, squeezing them together is like trying to push together the North sides of two magnets: they repel each other. It takes a massive amount of energy to squeeze them together hard enough to overcome that repulsion, fortunately the sun has enough energy to do this fairly easily. It is much more difficult for humans to do.

You misunderstand. Obviously, everyone feels homosexual attraction, “being” gay is choosing to act on that attraction. That’s what they mean when they say “being gay is a choice”.

I don’t think biology has much at all to say about gender though? Basic biology says there are two sexes, more advanced biology introduces chromosomal configurations other than XX and XY, and even more advanced biology considers a complex array of factors beyond chromosomes alone, but isn’t gender a social construct? Sure, historically it’s been correlated to biological sex, but it’s not really addressed directly by biology.

The two main rules that get ignored are 1. Free Parking is exactly that, you don’t get anything for landing on it, and 2. If you land on an unowned property and decide not to buy, it immediately goes up for auction. Ignoring those rules drags the game out forever. It’s supposed to be relatively short and brutal.

Exponential growth. That first 195,000 years was every tribe figuring out super basic stuff we take for granted, then gradually building upon that with other basic stuff we take for granted. Even before agriculture, pottery, metallurgy, herbal medicine, the basic knowledge these were built from took millennia to work out and pass down.

The real secret sauce was communication. Once tribes started sharing knowledge, suddenly the base of knowledge to built on got higher, and broader. Written language, better means of travel, this sped up the process. Electronic communication has made that knowledge base pretty much universally accessible and combinable.

Progress is faster when you’re not limited to what your direct tribal ancestors figured out and passed down.

Bambu X1C Purge and Prime

I’m considering pulling the trigger on an X1C but the waste is a huge turn-off. I know there are options for purging to infill or a sacrificial object, but last I heard there’s still a considerable amount of purge/prime. Can someone who’s played with the settings tell me honestly how much progress has been made in reducing...

I’m pretty sure the whole thing is a false flag/astroturf to discredit sincere leftist discourse. It seems a lot like a blend of bad leftist parody, and edgy 14-year-olds who fell for it
