People have said things to me such as: "If you love Palestine so much, why don't you go there and help them out — also I hope you don't get raped or kidnapped hehe".

And all I can respectfully say is that I did in fact spend time working as an UNRWA and UNSG contractor in the region between 2013 and 2015 and did enough free overtime to say I've done more than enough already.

And please stop trying to pit LGBT+ people and the ethnic groups that you're stealing land from together. It's not nice.

For the record: The only harassment I got while in the area as a visibly queer person at the time was from people working for the authorities in countries that lord over externally displaced Palestinians and not from the local Palestinians that I spent much more time with.

Does that mean that queerphobia does not exist in Palestine or within the externally displaced communities? — Of course not, but it is also a question of scale and magnitude.

Have Israel and the EBU realised how a continent-wide boycott against Israel and the Eurovision Song Contest due to the atrocities in Palestine is going to:

a) Lead to Israel winning and thus hosting the ESC next year?

b) The above point creating an even stronger ancor for further boycotts of the ESC and EBU programming in general?

When I was a kid (as in a proper kid) we were rather poor but could still afford to own a large three room apartment. Sis and I had a bunk bed and we ate cheap food but we we never felt "poor". This was in the 70s.

A couple with the same kind of income level would never be able to own that kind of apartment close to Stockholm these days.

...You can't compare 1:1 tho since back then a worker in a mechanic shop was a poor man's job and now a turner makes more money than many white collar jobs.

We need a different word for "old computer parts" and "parts for old computers". People use "retro" for both.

Like a Packard Bell 486 is the former: it was made in the 90s.

And a PicoGUS is the later: it's an ISA card that can be used in computers from the 90s, but it was made recently.

I order some Products from the United States.

The cost is $88 CAD.

There's a fixed international shipping cost of $48 CAD. Frustrating, but that is what the shipper has, so okay.

A couple days later, I get an email from UPS asking to pay the import duty fee. The import fee is $51 CAD.

That is more than half the cost of the product itself. I'm overall paying more for shipping+import fees than for the product.

When I moved here I assumed I could buy stuff from USA cheap because of NAFTA :(

@mcc Ah yes. I used to work at the post office in a different country but the general rule within WTO countries is that the calculation of import duties includes certain delivery methods such as UPS and FedEx and some "national postal operator" services, but not all.

I.e. if VAT would apply, then it is accounted for.

If shipping in included in your invoice, then it is usually accounted for here.
