one of those TV shows where they have a judge hear small claims cases, but instead of an old person like Judge Judy or Judge Wapner, it's a zoomer with neopronouns. it's called "Tough but Faer."

🇬🇧The documentary by German public broadcaster ZDF on EU surveillance research, supported by us , is out! It showcases our work in Brussels:

⚖️ My successful ECJ transparency lawsuit for disclosure of surveillance research on unscientific AI video lie detectors has made this research possible https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/posts/iborderctrl/

📄We have obtained many more iBorderCtrl documents: https://nextcloud.pp-eu.eu/index.php/s/seyNjWKQgQtCSZY

❓The ZDF show mentions the answer of EU Commissioner "Big Sister" Johansson to my written question: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/E-9-2020-000152-ASW_EN.html

🤥🎦The EU's does not ban the use of "video lie detectors" because an amendment colleagues and I tabled was unsuccessful: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/A-9-2023-0188-AM-772-773_DE.pdf

Another large language model scraper blocked. This graph is from a site which runs a tool generating answers for people doing important research work. The AI scraper sent hundreds of thousands of lookup requests evading rate limits by using about a thousand IPs and pinned multiple webservers at 100% CPU (graph from one attached). This is a massive waste of electricity to train a hallucination machine.

- if you're blind and want to go back to 90s technology, use editor's "move block" upwards or downwards key combination. ctrl-alt-shift-t for up, ctrl-alt-shift-y for down, well, screen reader won't tell you the block has been moved and you'll relive the 90s experience when you had to count button pressures to learn a remote control or cd player's usage. Moving block from toolbar is correctly notified instead. Hope it's fixed soon! https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/61168

Has anyone written about how textual generative AI feels strangely close to toxic masculinity in some respects? The absolute confidence in everything stated, the lack of understanding of the consequences of getting that confidence wrong for important questions, the semi-gaslighty feeling when it “corrects” itself when you call it out on something. It so often feels like talking to someone one would despise and avoid in “real life.” I’m curious if anyone did some writing on this.

1980s: Personal computers! So you don't have to use a mainframe! Independence!

2000s: Web services! So you're dependent on a handful of mainframes! Annoying if one is offline, but you can still get stuff done.

2020s: AI! So you're dependent on a single mainframe that serves everyone world-wide! Too bad if it goes down.

You probably have seen already all the caps about google AI recommending to put a bit of glue in your pizza sauce. You may have seen also how someone digged up that it comes from a reddit shitpost from ten years ago.

This case illustrate perfectly something I've been saying for a while: chatbots are basically a cosmetic upgrade over the good old "I'm feeling lucky" Google button.

Or more exactly: a new version of the button that needs 600 million $ in Nvidia gear every month and wastes half a liter of water every time you click it

The word apartheid is Afrikaans for "separation."

The word hafrada is Hebrew for "separation," and this is what they call their policy of physical and legal separateness between Palestinian and Israeli civil society

They didn't even make the word mean a different thing

You may be wondering why https://pixelfed.social closes registration so often, and the reason is we get ALOT of spam registrations

Our Autospam system prevents them from becoming a problem, but this eliminates potential spammers before they even get a chance

Take a look for yourself, and remember most growth on the fediverse is spam.

The dead internet theory is alive, and active if you pay attention.

Most fedi devs don't 😉

Released: PHP_CodeSniffer 3.10.1 🎉

This release contains a hotfix for a bug in the DNF syntax support layer, which could get confused over named parameters.

It also fixes a longer-standing bug which was plaguing match expressions containing nested arrays/closures or other nested structures.

Things should now be shiny again.

sometimes i become intractably stuck with a story or gameplay during development, and i have to give it a few weeks or months to breathe

a few years ago i imagined making games as if Cyan had failed with Myst, and went back to making 1-bit first person adventures for the macintosh instead

set on the distant pacific island of Shima no Shima, the adventure begins in a dreary abandoned basement.
