Any recommendations for refurbished laptop stores in Australia? I found two local Melbourne stores (Reboot IT and Renewd) and a store each in ACT, NSW that I can order from online (Australian Computer Traders and Recompute). Please let me know if you've used these or can recommend other refurbished tech stories. Thank you!

(I'm looking for a 5-ish year old ThinkPad to install Linux on for everyday use. My current one is an old gaming laptop, so it's big and heavy.)

I'm not usually someone who hears a phrase and thinks, "that'd be a good band name" all the time. But then I heard these two phrases, two days apart:

  • Homuncular Flexibility
  • Creeping Rhizomes

And both would make great band names, right?!

Today is a pizza and paracetamol kind of day.

And having taken the paracetamol and eaten the pizza (at 4pm, no less) I am feeling better.

I haven't used Times New Roman since 2008. But, type nerd that I am, I still ended up doing a semi-deep dive into the typefaces I recommend you use instead.

@james Thanks!

Usually when people consider Times New Roman alternatives for Linux they talk about Tinos (from Ascender Corp and licensed to ChromeOS), Liberation Serif (from Red Hat and used by LibreOffice), and FreeSerif (from GNU).

I can't remember if I'd come across Linux Libertine before, but now I'll definitely check it out in more depth now. I like the look of it!

I use Bookerly for my ebooks too :) Or sometimes Vollkorn.

It's 8:30am on Easter Sunday in Melbourne and our next door neighbour's house alarm has been going off for the last five minutes. Our next door neighbour is a priest, by the way. I guess Jesus has risen but nobody gave him the new alarm code.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

@thepoliticalcat They're a nice, friendly bunch and the priest is getting on the years so he's a little slower these days. I did go out and took a look at their place; all seemed well. And they managed to turn the alarm off just a couple of minutes later though, so that's good!

"For some, McKenzie’s show of support for Belyea was representative of positive politics and a sign of maturity from an MP looking forward to working collaboratively across party lines to deliver outcomes for people in the local area. However, for many in the Liberal Party, it was an “unforgivable” mistake as a member of a party “at war” with Labor."
