@Edent funnily enough, I was just thinking today that pretty much the only place I regularly still see AMP is in Guardian URLs…

andypiper,
@andypiper@macaw.social avatar

@Edent I don’t think so, and I generally don’t intend to hit the amp version of a link anyway…

Updated the Pimoroni (are they on Mastodon yet?) Pico Enviro+ sample to use nicer vector/Hershey fonts, and to also emit the readings via terrible "hacky-didn't-have-time-for-better-but-it-works" code https://github.com/andypiper/picow-enviroplus

Quick promo for the next weekend - @forgeandcraft will have an open studio showing off what we work on. If you’re in London or the surrounding area, it is free to come along and visit the 150+ artists in the venue. There are some phenomenal painters, sculptors and other creators to check out. Thu & Fri evening, Sat & Sun daytime. I’ll be doing some and demoing some electronics / robotics projects.

TheSteve0, to fediverse

I am not understanding what is.

  1. It seems like it is a rewrite/alternative server to the mastodon server. Looks to be written in Rust. It is a fork of , which seems to be written in typsescript
  2. But since it uses ActvityPub, it's interoperable with Mastodon
  3. Seems like you can't migrate your Mastodon account over.

So basically an alternative microblogging interface to the fediverse with different server software.

This is getting really interesting and 🤯

andypiper,
@andypiper@macaw.social avatar

@TheSteve0 @evan “client to all of the fediverse” on the publishing side, if you support ActivityPub then yes, in principle / sort of (check out fedidevs.org for more on associated protocols). Many of the platforms have their own client side APIs, if you will, e.g. Mastodon has one that looks a bit like the earlier Twitter API, and Pixelfed mostly mapped theirs onto the Mastodon pattern. But the good news is, all open and OSS, as you noted.

Your concept is absolutely sound, yeah.

@andypiper What do you think about this 3D printer?

I haven't used/bought a 3D printer but I'm interested in one. But there's so much choice.

@J_aa_p it looks interesting and I’ve been watching the campaign… but i have a small collection of others now! 🤦🏼 it is a pretty new idea so I definitely think I’ll wait for the reviews on that one. I like the Bambu, but I’m also a fan of what Prusa do, and would love to see more Open Source hardware.

Any idea what you’re looking for?

andypiper,
@andypiper@macaw.social avatar

@J_aa_p btw I really appreciate you asking my thoughts here! I’m pretty new to the space myself, but learning a lot. I really need to do more blogging about this area.

andypiper,
@andypiper@macaw.social avatar

@J_aa_p the Bambu also has colour switching, with daisy-chainable AMS (auto material system), very clever - slower and lots of waste material though, due to the need to purge the head each time the colour changes. Amazing results, in practice I haven’t yet got into multicolour prints very much. Again I’ll be curious to read the real world reviews of the Kokoni when it comes out…

It's time for a little change.
Woolly 1.4 is out now with a few improvements and a new awesome icon from @yanlu!

  • You can now reply, boost, and favorite posts using a different account with a simple long-press
  • Added new screen to comfortably read longer threads
  • Repeated boosts of the same posts are now automatically hidden

Enjoy!

Excellent evening at Oxford Python (thanks GitHub for hosting!). The work on CPython performance down to examining the way stack can be optimised and all of the other thought going on makes me grateful for smart folks who just enable me to enjoy writing code in Python! Wasp OS looks interesting for on wearables. 👀

Every now and then, Chrome on iPad just… closes itself and all the tabs, with no way to get them back (full history is not useful when it is synced with 3 other devices and tabs have been left open for a while). My bad habits with browser tabs, and this behaviour = 😣

andypiper,
@andypiper@macaw.social avatar

@alung yeah, the desktop UA is the reason I use Safari when I use it (that, and now, proper PWA support). I use Chrome really for device sync, since I typically roam across macOS/Linuxes/Win/iPhone/iPad (!)

blacklight, to random

I've got my own little Mastodon branch with posts support that I'm eventually planning to rollout.

However, after some days using as my daily driver, I'm feeling less the urge of implementing Markdown support on the backend.

Elk does a quite good job rendering Markdown elements in posts, regardless of what the backend does.

Do you folks use Elk, or another alternative frontend that renders Markdown posts? Or maybe Pleroma or another service that natively supports Markdown content? I'm considering whether I should really invest more time implementing this on the Mastodon backend...

andypiper,
@andypiper@macaw.social avatar

@blacklight I use Elk occasionally, but I also don’t come across a lot of Markdown in posts.
