This is a video of logging in Canada during the early 1950's and I am fawning and coveting the clothing.

We have cruise ships going by again now, as the season in Alaska has opened up. One went by and you could hear thumping music. Then the voice of a cheesy top forty sounding DJ came on, and you could just tell he was a most giant fartsmoker, saying shit like "alllrighhhhht is everyone ready to have a good time!!!!!!!"
Yet again, I am thankful not so much that I live with a view of the Salish Sea, but mainly because I am not on that floating nightmare.

The people who wore beepers in the 80's, then had the first giant cell phones , then had big ass bluetooth headsets and now walk around loudly talking FMMSU* talk into their earbuds are the same assholes,

While inverter machines and digital control TIG machines are incredible, and plasma cutters are super fast and cut a sweet clean line., They do not have the soul of a 70 year old cutting torch, I love breaking out the Airco 'corn cob' torch.

I hadn't thought about it. What did you want to learn? If it's strictly welding there are great videos online with people who are better than me (that's how I learned TIG) I do a lot of gas welding brazing and soldering

@asbestos to be honest, I didn’t have a specific idea in mind. I just saw cool-looking tools used in the realm of “bigger fabrication tech I don’t know” and got excited.

Years ago my parents moved from a Northeast college town to a small city in the midwest, My mom was in culture shock. "In the paper back east there were recipes for Ethiopian Kitfo, or Indonesian Rawon, here every recipe starts with "open a box of. . or a can of. . " and it's generally cream of mushroom soup
They left asap

"I have found that as I increase my fiber intake, my bowel movements have become huge effortless pushes, that fill the toilet with dung."

No, it isn't it . I had that in my studio for a while and I just sort of occurred to me to do that

This is not a new product, but it's distressing every time I see it. Kids raised by parents who can't teach them how to make a pb&j and kids who can't handle the crust on white bread grow up to be trump voters

I love people who get right on your ass when you're passing someone, and you're doing 68 in a 60 zone, and when you finally get over they take another five minutes to pass you because they were only going about 1mph faster than you.

It's funny how the people getting very upset at students protesting the killing, and the destruction of cites and homes, forcing millions to flee and live in camps are the same people who protested the "tyranny" of wearing a mask at the grocery store.

@asbestos why do you hate freedom?

edit: I worked at a place just north of Manville NJ that used the old Johns-Manville building. We weren't making asbestos products 😉

I'll bet that building took something to clean out, the dust probably got everywhere.

Close up of pieces of asbestos and cement found on the beach.
Asbestos cement was widely used for siding shingles and roofing tiles. Most notably it was used for municipal water pipes.

Asbestos fibers which sort of look like soft dog fur but sort of bunched together more

@asbestos i have asbestos siding on my 74 year old house. Some chips and cracks but it’s mostly ok.

Of course to have it replaced costs a fortune because of disposal.

@ookla13

As long as you don't saw it, or cut it it's not really a risk. The fibers are pretty well bound in the cement. Plus it probably has multiple coats of paint sealing it in (probably lead based paint but that's another issue) on the plus side,it will hold up almost indefinitely.
