Studio Update: A few weeks ago I was soliciting opinions about whether or not to get a Mac Mini to replace my ailing, nearly decade-old PC.
Opinions differed, leaning toward "yes but get more RAM than base model" and I had just about decided not to do it when I stumbled on a good video from a music tech vlogger I really like (video here: https://youtu.be/obkCMxaIIFM) who did exactly what I was thinking and had great results.
That process went really smoothly (in large part because the #MPC has an "Export to Ableton Live set" option) apart from the bumps that come along with relearning a new version of a complex software package you haven't used in 3+ years. It took about two days to get all the tracks moved over and setup to a basic level. And in my more real-world scenarios I'm still finding the the Mini can handle the task admirably.
Happy Birthday to Clyde Stubblefield, the OG Funky drummer. 🥰 We had the honour of recording the great man for an album we produced with Alison Limerick, back in the late 90s. None of the tracks were ever used, but it was an absolute riot recording our hero!

Here is an updated look at my #Studio designed #Lego themed #natural#history book. Each #baseplate is a different scale, showing mostly extinct animals (theres some extant ones on the right side of the pink baseplate)
The person on the baseplates represents a person about 6 foot tall.
Im still working on more designs.
Well my Mac Pro is back up and running. It took two days to install my plugins (the 290 Native Instruments plugins and libraries took the most time). And I’ve lost the vast majority of my Plugin Alliance and Harrison plugins due to their incompetence at integrating with their new parent companies install systems (Native Instruments and SSL respectively). Since I had older installers in both cases I was able to get the ones I use the most installed. #gearsquad#recording#plugins#Studio
I recently made some big upgrades to my home studio and thought I'd share some of them. #1 is a new desk with a KEYBOARD DRAWER. 😭 (Those are tears of joy.)
Well, Long & McQuade determined that my Apogee Symphony 32x32 is working just fine. Managed to get it hooked up to my MacBook today, installed the drivers, and sure enough it’s working. So the issue is indeed the Mac Pro. Sadly the MacBook isn’t really powerful enough to handle much of what I work with, but at least it’s a temporary solution. #gearsquad#musicproduction#recording#studio
A brief update on my #battery driven #studio. It looks like I'm going to have to invest in #solar cells right now after all, as the #electricity here on this beautiful island is not only exceptionally bad or #unstable in terms of #voltage but also in terms of #frequency, which makes it difficult for the #inverter to recognize a #powergrid as present at all. 😵💫️ Recently, the #volts have dropped at times below 140 while the frequency has hovered beween 40 to 55 #hertz.
Getting moved into the new place, so it's time for a sneak peek of the new studio build! This is probably pretty close to the final build but there are definitely a few question marks here still. And I need a couple hundred dollars worth of stands, cables and what not to actually get it up and running (moving is expensive!), but hey, looks cool!
Can I enter the studio, write and sequence a short piece, record it, edit the video, AND take my pup for a walk on the snowy cabin trails... all in under 120 minutes?
Apparently so!
The result is this peaceful little winter cabin performance featuring the Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave, Yamaha CS-30, and others.
