While inverter machines and digital control TIG machines are incredible, and plasma cutters are super fast and cut a sweet clean line., They do not have the soul of a 70 year old cutting torch, I love breaking out the Airco 'corn cob' torch. #art#welding#studio#metal
Before giving up for today, I took apart the sauna and shifted a bunch of rocks to expose the crack in the hot water pipe. It's going to be a pain in the ass to weld there, the crack is in a tight corner and of course on the bottom.
Access is limited, there's a wall on two sides and I'll have to bend myself in there. Maybe I can remove the wire mesh for better access, but probably I'll have to take out all the rocks then. Argh.
I had an epiphany today: Mastodon is my makerspace. I haven't been able to find a makerspace in this area since we moved here in '22, and that's been bugging me. But I scroll through Mastodon and see people's printing, woodworking, electronics, and welding projects, and I admire them, and sometimes I ask questions and learn new techniques. And when I post my own, people do the same.

Im trying to find a cotton/wool flannel work jacket that doesnt have polyester or any other plastic in it to use for #blacksmithing and #welding in winter, and eeeeverything is lined with plastic! Has anyone got suggestions? #help#trades#tradeswomen
I really need to learn how to weld. However, if I did weld, I'd be that strange guy with all kinds of random metal object sculptures in the front yard. 🤪 Really, just need to find some second hand equipment (based entirely on YouTube videos, not much different than soldering... except on a much larger scale) #welding
