IMPORTANT: due to the generally “depressing climate” of the world recently. Our mod team is swamped under an ocean of reports… some of them I consider good faith, some bad but we will try to reach consensus on any action we take so please understand that if they react to a report for one of your toots…. The @AusSocialMods have your best interest in heart.

It’s a very stressful time and our mod team has a lot of experience but they are very overwhelmed! Please don’t take any moderation action as a personal attack.

Finally, we need to grow the mod team because we’ve lost a few of them recently. Please talk with the cat.

:farnsworth: GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY: According to @AltTextHealthCheck our wonderful Mastodon instance is one of the most actively "ALT TEXT" posting instances in the fediverse (14th on this list).... with more than 60% of our media containing alt text as far as this shows.

This is lovely to see, and congratulations to mastodon.nz for smashing it!

Story time: I've had a few people recently message me regarding their strong suspicions that we had somebody impersonating (in their words catfishing) on aus.social.

While I couldn't find anything that proved one way or the other, I was able to directly contact the person via linked in of all places and confirm their identity.

This isn't a regular issue, but I hope it builds trust and safety on this platform. Thank you for people who raised concerns of the possible stolen identity, and thank you for the person for being understanding of our concerns.

NUGGET ALERT: Good afternoon, the server is now running on dedicated hardware hosted in a datacenter instead of the cloud.

The webapp and mobile apps should be a lot snappier because the servers specs (CPU/Memory/Storage) are all at least double the previous server.

Thanks for your supports and donations to the @PostersUnionAU (My Patreon) for making this possible...

(There was a slight bug with images on a few servers but that should be fixed soon)

Update: The queer.af domain has been "disabled" by the Afghanistan government (Taliban)...

We've added a little hack to re-enable communication but if you follow anybody on that instance... get in touch and find out where they're moving 🚚

  1. I'm going to be going on holiday to Europe for a few weeks in July.. so I'm going to be quiet during this period (I've asked @futzle and a few others to handle anything in the case of an emergency).

  2. I highly recommend everybody to follow the cat (moderation team) at @AusSocialMods as they'll be the best first point of call for any problems.

  3. We're going to start looking for more people to join the moderation team... Many hands make light work etc. The Mod team will be making an announcement about this soon.

Business Update: Apparently 50% of this months Patreon transactions didn't complete.

If you're one of our lovely Patrons, I believe you would get an error on your account, so please check on your side of the fence...

I'm speaking with them, but it seems that they've really $%& up royal.. so I might need to figure out another way to get support for this place that's stable. :bill:

(We're running pretty lean, but I'm starting to look into cost saving measures anyway)

There is something called https://opencollective.com/ which apparently has a lot more transparency which I like.

Normally there are only 3-4 failed transactions, but 50% of them is weird and scary. :oofface:

:goose_honk: Update: I've migrated pixelfed.au to a brand new dedicated host with a faster CPU (AMD Zen 2 EPYC 7642 :flipkitten: to Zen 3 EPYC 7713). :flipturt:

UPDATE: The server has experienced an unusual spike in activity (I guess we will never know why).... so posts are a tiny bit delayed.

A.S has had a bug that has stopped uploading large files such as videos to my media store.

This bug has been resolved and you should be able to upload video now without weird errors and hangs. :psyduck:
