I like this visualization a lot. It shows "the article count of European Wikipedias by language family", arranged to resemble a map of Europe and parts of Asia (maybe it's a "Eurovision Song Contest definition of Europe?).
It's an interesting way to discover all the not so obvious Wikipedia languages, like Bavarian.
Is it really coincidence that Mastodon's insistence on description (alt text) for images and large-scale scraping of images to feed generative image machine learning models happens at the same time?
I find this fascinating. Maggi had a very strong presence on German TV in my childhood/youth, so it looks like a very German brand to me (even though it's Swiss). Nestlé, who bought Maggi in 1947, apparently produces it for various Arabic markets as well, which an Iraqi store in Köln than imports and sells here, completing the circle.
I want to know what the phone's camera app is doing when I'm turning it on and for a few second there's a kind of flicker (I assume a kind of interference between the frequency of some lamp and the camera), and then that flicker just stops.
I guess there's an algorithm running that detects this interference(?) and adjusts to avoid it?
Might be a good time to re-read https://vas3k.com/blog/computational_photography/ about computational photography. It's been 4 years since I've read it, but I assume a lot is still relevant and up-to-date.
How do you avoid, counter or compensate for errors introduced while editing?
Especially in German I end up introducing grammatical errors when changing a sentence, since often the whole sentence needs a completey different order of subject, object and verb. Just re-reading doesn't seem enough - that only works minutes or hours later.
