Fair points. It should also be renationalised IMO.

As a frequent traveller, here are five things I want Qantas to do

@timrichards sadly the benchmark for ruining Qantas’ reputation has always been killing passengers in a plane crash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qantas_Flight_1

The concept of small modular reactors is fed by ignorance of just how mind boggling expensive nuclear submarines are to build and operate. These 300MW reactors need 20% enriched uranium too and don’t care about how dirty the radioactive waste is at the end of their 30 year life. SMRs are vastly more expensive than batteries and solar. Of course if the design requirement is that Australia can remain submerged until the food runs out then perhaps they make sense.

iOS 17 appears to be draining my iPhone 13 battery like crazy. Can’t say I’m surprised. Will reboot, then order a 15 like the Steve Jobs towel boy I am.

Remember Forth? And 6502. The first article I wrote that was ever published was Forth code back in the 80s. This is not that code. This is FigFORTH. https://ksquiggle.neocities.org/ff6502

@billbennett Forth is a gloriously bonkers language but there was a window in the 80s when I was all-in on Forth.

    If Australia was truly capable of moving on the next announcement would be a high speed train linking Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney but no, Qantas will continue to be protected while they and the other airlines spew megatons of CO2 on the densest air route on the planet.

    @jpm @SuperMoosie the Newcastle train is widely known as the Shitcansen. It takes longer than driving a car. It takes longer than steam trains covered the same route last century.

    How desperately broken was the ABC’s coverage of the Trump Georgia arrest? They player 1:58 of his plane landing, taxiing and him disembarking and getting into an armoured SUV. Glad I didn’t tune into the 7pm news for that.

    Trump’s indictment in Georgia seems significant.

    I’m not a lawyer, but as I understand it, this indictment is different because Trump cannot be pardoned for it, even by a Republican president.

    First, because this is a State charge and not a Federal one, a president can’t pardon him. Second, Georgia is one of the few states where the Governor cannot grant pardons; only an independent board can, which means a sympathetic Governor cannot grant a pardon. Third, the board cannot grant preemptive pardons, which means Trump would have to be sentenced before a pardon can be given. Fourth, the board cannot grant a pardon before a convicted person serves five years in prison.

    @drahardja The irony that legislation & a constitution designed to keep black people in jail would keep Trump in jail if he is convicted, and listening to the DA read the charges today... he and his cronies have a big problem in Georgia. Also, there doesn't appear to be a Trump golf course so he's going to need to buy a home to service his inevitable home detention in. They're not going to let him cross the state line if he's convicted. Sometime soon he's going to climb up the stairs of his private jet and run away to the middle east. That's going to be a fun day, like OJ but they'll let him go because shooting down a private jet with Trump on it isn't going to get Biden reelected.

    Some of you in Sydney mentioned Aldi had “Belgian syrup waffles” better known as Stroopwafels for a few dollars per packet, which are heavenly when microwaved for about 30 seconds and sat on top of a hot beverage. Being a fan I went to Aldi in Adelaide, didn’t find any but left with one of these telescopes for $129. As you do.

    bigjsl,
    @bigjsl@aus.social avatar

    @markrprior I’m working through a process but creating a new account requires two individuals which is a pain for sole traders. The whole thing is only a problem because they mangled my original NIC handles during the creation of APNIC. Very tempting to let it slide but there is a path to gaining control of my two original /24 blocks so why not play?
