Australian telcos have to get lawyers from government agencies to sign off on their network design choices because the government has to be seen to be “doing something”™ about the dire consequences of a network being disabled. Today we get to see those consequences. Yeah, mostly suffered by organisations with poor infrastructure resilience. Hope they’re enjoying their whole of business discounts. Meanwhile there won’t be total economic collapse. Some retailers won’t be able to sell anything because their eftpos is down and no one carries cash any more. A failure like today is inevitable so plan for it.

For years now, I’ve rarely gotten SMS spam. But about two weeks ago I started getting 5-10 spam SMS texts per day, every day. They’re all crap like this, most of from those 5-digit short code numbers. Did I just stumble onto some sort of list, or is this happening to others suddenly too?

@gruber @TFDuesing @cabel the spammers don’t own the shortcodes. They have found a gateway that doesn’t care about number ownership and will carry their traffic to the mobile networks cheap. The mobile networks only care about getting paid to deliver messages.

This morning’s BOM forecast was for 0% rain in each hourly window. Yesterday said 30% chance of not much for today and that had fallen overnight. 2.2mm including hail later we have clear skies at sunset. We consider BOM forecasts to be weather based entertainment, like FoxNews but without fascists.

It’s sucks to be ’s customer on NBN fixed wireless because we are getting a special type of price reduction from $79 to $95 🤦🏻‍♂️ Then they sent me a apology for sending multiple emails (we have a FTTB service in the city) but haven’t yet worked out the real problem with this email.

We seem to have acquired a puppy, a mostly grown year old rescue puppy. The dog and pup had a romp around in our firewood pile and chased and caught a rabbit. Both consider it was a good day even if they didn’t get to keep their new toy. Rabbit acted fatally wounded then hopped off.

@morebento @sortius Sharepoint is like trying to solve a problem with xml, now you have two problems. Need something that tracks stuff across multiple sites, has useful labels for boxes that lets you know what is in them, lets you move an entire box to another location. Ironically I’m building a spreadsheet to keep track of the potential apps.

One of the upsides to antivax parents is they’re creating a statistically meaningful control group of kids to debunk the autism rubbish. I feel sorry for the kids having to suffer preventable diseases, particularly the nasty ones like polio. Time to invest in whatever company still makes iron lungs?

    First proper failure today. These pegs are meant to have hex heads to match the hex driver that came with them, in the same nice plastic case. Lodged a return on basis goods not as described and I just take them to the post office and get a refund. What I really wanted was screw in F-ing tent pegs for the weekend.
