AI generated content is garbage. The website has detailed driving instructions which do not mention the ferry.

Every chance I've had to interact with satellite operators in conferences, I've asked them about their plans for dealing with solar storms (I'm particularly worried about Starlink, which requires dozens of maneuvers per day to avoid collisions. What if a large fraction shuts down for a few hours?!)

The universal response to my inquiries has been "Don't worry about that, it'll be fine!"

I guess we're going to find out very soon. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/

@sundogplanets like so many modern possible disaster things I bet the modern satellites just ride through this.

In case you're wondering about ROE vs ROI here's a simple explanation: Return on Equity is a measure of how well the company is doing for the shareholders, Return on Investment is how well the company is doing for itself and its lenders. So ROI can look quite healthy while ROE is tiny or negative.

Remember how Foxtel were selling Hubbl for half price and all the reviews said they are junk? Now Foxtel are giving them away to former customers. "We want you to be one of the first to experience Hubbl; Australia's newest transformative TV experience and right now, as a previous Foxtel Now customer, you can get a free Hubbl* (normally $99)."

Ford recall vehicles in USA but don’t actually fix the cause, just the symptoms (which include catching fire). It’s like how their health system prescribes opioids rather than treating the cause of pain.
“But according to safety regulators, the automakers remedy enables fuel to drain from a cylinder head hole to the ground below the vehicle.
"The recall remedy does not include replacement of the cracked fuel injector," NTHSA wrote.”

Google to purge billions of files containing Chrome users' personal data… in the USA and I’m supposed to feel relieved, happy, positive about using Chrome? Might as post all your private data on Pastebin than use Chrome. Note well that this purging is for US users not Australians. Interesting article if you read it carefully. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-02/google-to-purge-billions-of-files-containing-personal-data-in-se/103657584

@glynmoody the lack of rule of law has already affected Hong Kong’s status as a business hub.

This George Street tram is useful, but IMO the CBD stops are too far apart. It's a fair walk if you happen to be halfway between some stops (eg QVB and Wynyard).

bigjsl,

@luciedigitalni a consequence of thinking about a tram as a thing that travels between two places rather than a thing that moves people between places they need to be.

Nationals senator, Bridget McKenzie, and Liberal senator Dean Smith said “The Albanese government has failed to ensure travelling Australians are not taken advantage of by our airlines and instead have spent the past 18 months running a protection racket for Qantas who represent more than 60% of the Australian airline industry.” This is of course a completely different protection racket than the one the Coalition ran for the previous nine years from the Chairman’s Lounge. I hope Albo’s government legislate more protection for airline passengers but I would love to see concrete progress on building high speed rail between Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/feb/09/new-pay-on-delay-airline-flight-delays-bill-compensation-passengers-liberal-coalition-details
