Car manufacturers have called for urgent action to reignite the switch to electric vehicles, after sales figures showed slowing demand among ordinary motorists for battery-powered cars....
This is essentially it. The surge in demand probably came from company cars and those who can afford to buy expensive cars, but now that demand has been met then sales have dropped off. We’re not yet in the market to replace our car but I do keep an eye on things, and every time I look at a new EV, they’re like 30 or 40k over what I’d be willing to pay.
I imagine it’s an issue of economies of scale, they’re more expensive because they’re producing less than ICE vehicles; the only way to get them cheaper would be for some heavy government subsidies.
Maybe it uses the road signs? I think most modern cars already read the road signs and display the limit on the dash.
Only issue with this system, at least from my car is that it can sometimes get it wrong, so it would be super annoying if the car beeped when I was doing more than 10mph that what it thinks the limit is.
I’ve had the day off to go to MCM Comic Con today. I’m hoping to get some short hikes in over the weekend if the weather holds out, and maybe get a bit of decorating and household maintenance out of the way....
My wife and her mum have gone away until Monday, so I’ve got both the kids all weekend. They’re keeping me on my toes! I’m trying to find the time to watch the F1 qualifying but don’t have a chance.
Only found out at 8:30 this morning that my daughter has a birthday party to go to at 10:45, and my wife has the car so might have to chance cycling there and hopefully avoid the rain.

I was thinking the same thing. I’m pretty sure you need to sign the documentation after double checking what the registrar has put down. We have up to 6 weeks too to register the birth if you haven’t had chance to decide on a name yet.
I don’t think they are, they’re more akin to forums.
In my mind, social media is where you follow people and people broadcast their lives. That’s the social aspect of it.
With Reddit and Lemmy we follow communities on topics we’re interested in.
I do get the arguments for it to be social media but that just makes the category way too broad, as you could argue any site with a comment section is social media.
How is this a controversial take? If you need a wall to keep people in or attempting to emigrate makes you a “defector”, or you’ve built up a huge surveillance network where your neighbours or even partners can report you for bullshit “crimes” , you’re an authoritarian state.
Those aren’t compliant. The reject all needs to be as prominent as the accept all option without any additional clicks. So many sites get it wrong it’s insane!
It seems to take nearly 10 minutes to get started. What’s actually happening? Are the pistons literally unable to move in the cylinders until the engine is warm enough?
