A feature I'm exploring for @IceCubesApp
Pin people at the top of your timeline (like Instagram stories, etc..), and whenever you refresh your timeline, you can tap on their pictures to see their most recent posts in your timeline context. You can also see their posts only, for example.

@dimillian @cheeaun @IceCubesApp Did you know there's a Featured Profiles endpoint that isn’t even being used on the front end right now? You COULD use that to pin / unpin profiles to the top.

I did some research on it, but in summary the endpoints are found here (check the "see also" section for pin and unpin)

Not federated. Currently you can’t retrieve someone else’s selections, but at some point they will turn it back on and you are correct it would be public.

Not sure how they plan to bring it back, sounds like some sort of featured page with featured hashtags, people, pinned posts, etc.

@mikedev Only issue there is what when you use you're normally looking for owner's photos and videos of their dogs. returns additional things like pet adoption, news articles, text only posts. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but it's how I use that tag.

With Mastodon you can do a V2 search of " -is:sensitive has:image" to the same effect but...not many are gonna do that. Does streams have a way to filter a feed like that?

@dtgeek I wonder if I have any of those old Archie comics sitting around somewhere - we inherited them from our older cousins, so we were reading 1960 / 70s Archie comics in the 80s. Same with Charlie Brown paperback collections.

@dtgeek Even when I was reading these comics in the early 80s as a kid I remember thinking Midge was in a very dangerous situation. It wasn't funny.

What if Midge was using Moose as muscle for some Sopranos level evil scheme. She was smart and needed the brawn to protect her. Surprised that didn't make it into Riverdale.

Embarrassing. I absolutely believed Phanpy did not have quote posting capabilities. I have even been jumping over to a different app on the rare occasion I use that feature, copying the post url, etc. over so I could find it. 🤦‍♂️

How could I miss it? The only thing I can think of is that at one time it didn't have them (I have been a Phanpy fan for a very long time), so I just blinded myself to them not being there out of habit.

I even run my own personal phanpy client instance. :psyduck:

Have you ever watched a movie that had a moment that made no sense and it just went on like it didn't happen?

"It Follows", a horror film from a few years back had this - a random scene where some teenagers are hanging out watching TV when one pulls out a plastic seashell, flips it open, and it's some kind of e-reader / telephone with circular screens?

There's no further mention of it in the movie.

WTF. I still think about it to this day!

Installed the docker of IceShrimp.NET, which isn't even in beta yet. I have a few installs under my belt now (Mastodon, Bonfire, GoToSocial, etc.) so I know the basic drill, but this was still a pretty easy install.

In the branch I used, there's no front end yet. Phanpy, Elk and Enafore handled at least the basic posting requests so the API is solid.

So cool to see dotnet code in the fediverse! Follow me @box464 :)

The three things that have helped me find a safe, happy social home on a larger instance are carefully curating who I follow, the hashtags I follow and keyword muting. This is my own self generated algorithm.

Still getting my bearings about how to make a smaller instance just as vibrant. Relays? Being more lax about who I follow? Maybe some of the newer fedi platforms like @newsmast and @Flipboard can help. I know @mammoth has hand curated topic feeds as well.

I've been playing it loosey goosey with backups on my lately. Durnik, my original Portainer workhorse, gets all the love and has very specific backup routines per application hosted.

My new ProxMox powerhouse, Belgarath, is going the lazy admin route - I just backup the the entire server as an image daily. Thinking it's time to revisit and setup similar per VM / app backups.
