"Voting isn’t marriage - it’s public transport. You are not waiting for “the one” who is absolutely perfect."

With this metric, is even marriage like marriage? Do people believe there is exactly one person out of seven billion that is your soulmate and you have to find them?

clacke, to hongkong

#hongkong has a well-oiled machinery when it comes to weather events.

HK Observatory issues weather warnings: Amber rain, red rain, black rain, monsoon, typhoon T1, T3, T8, T10

Schools, employers, government and private services have well-documented standards for when they'll be open, be closed, offer limited service etc, depending on weather signal and timing.

The city thankfully made a decision relatively early on, before adding millions of people, to invest in separate systems for rain drainage and waste sewage. The drainage has margins for even the most extreme weather events.

clacke,

All of this is very impressive, but then it also makes it all the more surprising when you encounter the gaps.

Today is just red rain, but some pretty recently built and nice-looking malls have dripping leakage from the roofs and put out security tape and rubbish bins to block off the affected area and contain the leak.

Some recently built and nice-looking walkways are flooded by several centimetres because they weren't built with the appropriate tilt and drainage.

clacke,

There are people in the city who have decades of experience with civil engineering in this rainy region, but I guess nobody asked them to have a look at the plans before investing billions in construction?

Compared to building entire malls and bridges, making sure this skylight is properly sealed and this walkway is five centimetres higher at that point over there doesn't seem like a huge expense.

Grace Jones was filming the James Bond classic 'A View to a Kill' in the adjacent studio at Pinewood whilst Tim Curry was filming 'Legend' during 1984. Jones used to hang out with Tim whilst he was having his prosthetic makeup applied for the character of Darkness. Tim's makeup took up to six hours to apply and the two would chat and pose for humorous Polaroids together throughout the day.

clacke,

@fritzy @gamingonlinux They do have live Mastodon comments on their page. I will not dig deeper to see if there is anything of generated server-side.

The mentioned a CDN, but maybe that's media only and the page is live and dynamic.

It never works, there are always some people doing it anyway. 😃

@AngryAnt @buonhobo @popey No matter how Aux turns out, I hope people are also aware of Guix, which shares a past, has largely overlapping goals, and has explicit governance and a contributor covenant.

clacke,

@popey Fair! 😅

Honestly, I know core people are very much aware of Guix and collaborate on things, but I don't know how the average Nixer fairs, I'm out of touch for years.

My main point is that GNU has had leadership issues and therefore Guix has actively disentangled itself from that years ago and got things right. I haven't looked at how Aux governance looks.

The Princedom of Pontecorvo was a short-lived client state of France during the Napoleonic Wars.

Napoleon took it from the Papal State after becoming King of Italy, created it as a princedom and made one of his Imperial Marshals the Prince of Pontecorvo.

The Marshal, Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, was soon headhunted by the Swedish establishment to become Karl XIV Johan, the new King of Sweden, and gave up the princedom. His dynasty formally rules Sweden to this day.

Pontecorvo today has a population of ~13000, the same size population as the bunch of towers on top of a shopping mall where I live.

One of kid's classmates had a surprising anti-gay opinion, so he's been asking around a bit where people stand. Thankfully, that kid seems to be the outlier.

Made me remember that time half a life ago when I accidentally "came out" to a friend ... I admitted my interest for a woman with an ambiguous nickname and hilarity ensued.

My friend's response was so overwhelmingly excited and supportive that I promised that if I ever discovered I was gay, I was sure to go to him first with the news. 🥰

It's becoming more and more common that I can't search-fetch a post. Reposting it from another place brings it here and then I can search and find it.

I'm guessing this is because more sites are enabling authorized fetch and Friendica hasn't yet implemented it ... for search specifically? Otherwise I shouldn't get the reposts either?

Not pushing anyone to do anything, it's not a weird corner case, I'm sure the relevant people are aware and it's in the backlog, and a fix will arrive in due time.
