I took pixel.infosec.exchange offline to fix the new critical cve in pixelfed. Since pixelfed doesn't work well with docker, I am also moving to a vanilla/bare metal install, so it'll take a while to complete. My apologies.

codinghorror,

@jerry never apologize for all the work you're doing on our behalf! 🤗

Earned my first road rash today, after a year and a half of cycling, and further hardened my conviction that every car out there is a goddamned menace.

Especially, it turns out, Jaguars. /1

codinghorror,

@gknauss geez sorry man. Take it easy. Also fuck jaguars, almost as bad as jettas.

codinghorror,

@gknauss actions have consequences

Poor Things is like a much, much more accessible The Lobster. It is almost as good as Everything Everywhere All At Once which is an unbelievable compliment. See it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlbR5N6veqw

codinghorror,

It's one of those movies where I literally can't think of a single thing it could do better, or meaningfully criticize.

codinghorror,

@stooovie well I think Barbie is also good but this is a goddamn masterwork.

codinghorror,

"If you encounter any problems, any tensions, any arguing, that you cannot resolve yourselves, you will be assigned children, that usually helps." oh man The Lobster. So good. Bur Poor Things is the best intro. If you like that, go for The Lobster next.

codinghorror,

@miclgael oh please do. Please.

codinghorror,

@foxxtrot oh god please see it

codinghorror,

anyways, don't take my word, look at Metacritic: https://www.metacritic.com/movie/poor-things/ and also what the hell is wrong with the movie reviewer at the SF Chronicle!?

codinghorror,

a "141 minute mistake"? Dude, you're a 64 year long mistake as a movie reviewer!

codinghorror,

@wamonite oh god if you liked the Lobster this is an absolute must watch

codinghorror,

@foxxtrot Ruffalo is so so very good in it, as are all the main actors. Exceptional in every way.

I don't often like music recommendations because I have strange taste in music, but this one is off-the-charts amazing. Thanks @hotdogsladies for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KACt6YhOyY

Just finished (re)watching the 13th Warrior, and you don't have to tell me it's a movie from the same composer and year as The Mummy, because boy oh boy is this literally the same music without being the same music (hashtag artist signature)

codinghorror,

@shana did you read the story? It's great too! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eaters_of_the_Dead

codinghorror,

@shana yeah me too I LOVED that book as kid

And for anyone asking—YES!

That's the same Margaret Qualley from that Spike Jonze commercial I was obsessed with a few years ago.

@hotdogsladies can't disagree

Not enough of you have heard Metronomy's The Bay. You're welcome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PnOG67flRA

For anyone wondering what it was like being a teenager in the 90s, I give you, X-Files S2E14, "Die Hand Die Verletzt". The first 10 minutes are just so accurate to what the mindset/living experience/reality was in those times, it's as accurately creepy as watching Office Space 2k office worker, or watching Silicon Valley in the mid 2010s as a FAANG bee. Seriously, if you watch it, imagine yourself in a world where those things could be real, and you can be closer to what the 90s were like.

codinghorror,

@shana you're not wrong; the pace of change is accelerating. CDs seem ancient. Songs from 2012 seem like they're from a totally different era.

codinghorror,

@raven667 @mattdm @shana oh for sure. We used to have like, 5-10 TV channels max. ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.

ok, so there are plenty of people talking about this on here, but I want to emphasize how truly amazeballs Shift Happens really is. It is absolutely magnificent, an unapologetic, incredibly meticulously researched and executed love song to keyboards. It didn't just exceed my already high expectations: it absolutely blew them away. It's insanely great. Go buy it. https://shifthappens.site/

codinghorror,

@ssg they are making more soon!

First, let me say that I have massive respect for Lori Gottlieb, but I'm having trouble with the cognitive dissonance of her 2012 book "Marry him: the case for settling for Mr. Good Enough", and then.. this: https://www.onceuponabebe.com/2022/01/single-mama-spotlight-lori-gottlieb.html where she clearly states "single by choice" circa 2022. I'm like.. if someone this sophisticated, a literal therapist with incredible emotional intelligence who has written great books on this very topic (and btw quite attractive), can't find a life partner, the rest of us are sooo fucked?!

codinghorror,

@jessekelber it's all valid, just surprising

codinghorror,

@subterfugue I think that's unfair to her

codinghorror,

@subterfugue dude that's the default way I take all messages
