@colhill@aus.social

A guest on #Darumbal land, but raised in the heart of #Wiradjuri land.

Have invested time in #PapuaNewGuinea and #Fiji and have been fortunate to forge some lifeshaping relationships from both. Now however not really not feeling as if I have a fixed address....

Naively frustrated that people can't just be a little nicer....

Here is a fascinating video on how to make compost with ancient tools.

I love this garden that is for me an inspiration. The owner Yves has created a garden on a swamp that he has maintained for 40 years.

The video is in French but it shows all of the basics of how to harvest and prepare your organic matter.

@compost I've found a way to boost the compost process here is sunny Central Queensland.

It's been unseasonably dry (and unseasonably hot / cold / wet all around) and the compost had stalled even with some attention to keeping it damp.

Well I tried using a dilute solution of molasses (it's cheap around here as it's a stock food supplement).... and was amazed that the process restarted, ramped-up and escalated to a point where the compost is breaking down faster than ever before.

Obviously the extra nutrients for the microbiota were the solution.

@compost @Pollinators @RagnaJa yep, agreed. SImply as it's an external import it's something that I'd be cautious of.

Another coles checkout with a customer facing camera given the gift of googly eye.

@Philipnschofield @bastardsheep unfortunately we're getting exactly what we asked for. We want lower prices (and let's face it many of us simply prefer self check-outs) so this - self serve - is one response. On the other hand as investors (and virtually every adult Australian holds shares in Woolworths and Coles through their Superannuation fund) we also demand higher returns, and, yet again this - self serve - is a suitable response.
The only way to fix this is to actually shop somewhere else. Go to IGA or a fully independent. Pay the extra, but do so in the knowledge that it's by choice.
It's that or enjoy the subterfuge of googly eyes.

My name is Luke and I live in a country where having too much renewable energy at once is called 'threat to electricity supply'.

colhill,
@colhill@aus.social avatar

@lukem we have the same statements being uttered in Australia. Recently we have even allowed for the grid owners (surprise, surprise heavily involved with the fossil fuel industry) to actually isolate an individual dwellings electrical production by interfering with the inverter.

So solar production is cheaper than ever, output is higher than ever ... but we now have a law to restrict it.....
