First little test prints of some glow in the dark @badge shims.. just some M3 bolt holes for now. Will tinker with other ideas in @FreeCAD and hopefully bring odds n sods for trades! :)

Same hexagonal printed parts in the dark showing they are glow in the dark!

I've been experimenting with loading photos not taken on the toy camera and loading them onto the camera just to print them out... I think you need to get a small file size and maybe(?) remove metadata... though it may also be an issue around how some software writes a JPG.

I don't know if anyone else has figured this out yet, but if not, I'm working on it through trial and error.

concretedog,
@concretedog@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb I briefly tried this on mine and totally failed. I'd love to see your solution!

concretedog,
@concretedog@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb I tried (again very briefly) to edit an image from the toy camera in gimp and reload it but that broke as well. Metadata tinkering is a good shout.

I printed a hexpansion with a fidget spinner on it? I dunno, I don’t even use fidget spinners. I guess wanted to see if it worked! (It does!)

@CatherineFlick ah interesting.. I'd tooted a question this morning about the connector dimensions to the badge team this morning as I was working on a freecad template... you're connector is much bigger though! https://mastodon.social/@concretedog/112433150316508241

concretedog,

@CatherineFlick my template so far!

@CatherineFlick sorry I utterly refuse to open autodesk stuff!

concretedog,
@concretedog@mastodon.social avatar

@CatherineFlick ta for the response though!

concretedog,
@concretedog@mastodon.social avatar

@CatherineFlick Ha I'm like the worst person for this as I work with @FreeCAD and wrote a book on it etc! I hate the vendor lock in stuff of autodesk.. also the fact that here in Wales the government signs up EVERY child to autodesk (for tinkerCAD) aged 7. Horrid... and thats before all the ways they've ripped off the maker community!

Hey @badge @emf I'm just laying out a hexspansion template in @FreeCAD and wondering about dimensions of the slots at the side of the connector? I can't see the info on this drawing.. https://tildagon.badge.emfcamp.org/hexpansions/

@badge @emf @FreeCAD hey @andypiper I think you have built around this.. any info?!

Did a load of maintenance and repair on a beloved tent today! Used my pretty much #EDC little pocket/bag diy sewing kit.. It's been refined contents wise a lot over time!

There were no left-handed people in the 14th century. They were just clumsy.

There were no color-blind people in the 18th century. They were just not paying attention.

There were no people with ADHD in the 20th century. They were just lazy.

As the requirements the society puts on us increase, completely new forms of disability are invented.

@concretedog@mastodon.social avatar

@deshipu I've been fascinated this last year training in Longsword based off proto germanic texts starting around 1400, they are very inclusive and descriptive of left handed as well as right. Starkly different to the traditional but more modern Chinese system I study!

Thinking of swapping distro, moving away from Arch and back towards Debian.. anyone got any recomendations? Deffo want to avoid snap and not use flatpak.

concretedog,
@concretedog@mastodon.social avatar

@villares So mostly I am FreeCAD, KiCad and Inkscape and a lot of libreoffice. Arch FreeCAD packages are having some challenges atm. I moved from ubuntu based stuff towards Arch to get away from Snap and used manjaro for a while but ended up on a weird fun arch based distro called Garuda. It's been great but wayland has broke a lot of stuff!

@yorik @villares @beatnikqueen @FreeCAD Schedule it after a Cabo Verde one?!?! :)

@yorik @villares @beatnikqueen @FreeCAD we really must build this FreeCAD yacht/ship also! :)

So. Did that gig last night. Raised a bit of cash in memory of Duncan... I hadn't thought beyond the gig but been asked to do another and a radio live session. I think I might be the first poet nutter to use a flip chart in their set. :)

Just posted a blog version of that little article I wrote about using a print and stick diy inclinometer (drawn in @inkscape ) to measure things height/altitude. It's a perfect little activity! https://concretedog.blogspot.com/2024/04/how-high-did-my-rocket-fly-diy.html

My new thing is buying cheap CDs from charity shops instead of streaming. I cancelled Spotify about 8 months ago. Spent about the same on CDs. Think I might build a Pi based auto CD ripper :)

Last night I dreamed I was in a string quartet performance that was somehow a talk about satellite pollution. I wish I could figure out how to do this... playing angry music sounds way more fun than giving an angry lecture.

concretedog,
@concretedog@mastodon.social avatar

@sundogplanets Makes me think about when I worked for librespace foundation I often taked about the o reilly/make series of DIY satellite books.. the author Sandy Antunes had a personel satellite project (cubesat iirc) that did some sciencey sensing but they used either midi or OSC as the data package so they could also have the receiver composing live into Sandys modular synthesiser!
