I have a somewhat sadistic, pro-AI view. I hate the SEO-optimized, regurgitated trend of content writing over the past decade or so. The same goes with videos to some extent.
I like the idea that AI will make this activity so easy, and mindless, that there won't be ANY value left in it. So the web might get so flooded with AI-generated content.
Maybe, just maybe well researched, human-written content will be valued infinitely more, than it has been in the past decade.
I'm curious, and this is not a shot at those who run hefty server(s) at home. What's all the excessive performance for? Are there many tens and hundreds of users using the services? Is it one activity that needs that performance? Are you running public hosting?
I know a RPI is underpowered, so I also run an ancient Thinkcentre Tiny that seems to serve me and 1-2 others just fine. I think I have some 20 services running on it.
A 5-day weekend lies before me. The last 4-day weekend I had was amazingly relaxing. Got all my chores done before the weekend began, then fixed some broken things.
I'm hoping to finish my chores today, then tomorrow onwards, maybe I'll -
Watch a movie everyday?
Play some games I've purchased on Steam
Finish a book
Code a little
Play on the handheld game console
Just finished the first season of Foundation. The series keeps getting better as it goes on. Very much looking forward to the second season and doubling down on reading the books (which I know are very different). #SciFi#FoundationSeries
An update on ditching #Obsidian for #Todoist as my #TaskManagement app. I realised now what effort it was to update tasks on each individual project page. On Todoist, I just have to click on a folder I label "This week" or "Today" to see what tasks I need to do for the week/day. If I need to shuffle it around, it's just a drag & drop action. Having it on my mobile was also really helpful.
@hankg I've never thought of myself as a sci-fi fan, but it's shows with a story that are pretty realistic that sit well with me. Silo was one of them.
For All Mankind also does it. Waiting to watch ep2 when I get back.
I feel like #mastodon is pretty easily, a good and easy Twitter alternative. Even Pixelfed feels natural. I can't say the same for #Kbin / #Lemmy just yet. Maybe the upcoming apps will change that feeling.
@kohelet That's the issue. The platforms exist but people need to choose one and make a move. It was pretty easy for Twitter folk to pick Mastodon. Moving away from Reddit should be easier, since people don't have followers as such that they need in the other place.
I'm looking to see if people go to Lemmy, and one of the popular instances (lemmy.ml) is getting overloaded. I wish Tildes and Lobste.rs had open registrations too.
@steffo Yep, it took a few games to get used to. Games also seem a little shorter (which is good). A few hero tweaks maybe necessary but the map itself is nice. Movement around with the additional teleports make teams more mobile (and less lazy).
