I’m at an interesting point I think with and my testing.

I’m really hoping to try to leverage it to build some community around some topics like certain games ( or for example ) as a potential alternative for the chirp social groups, but at the same time I feel like a few lingering missing federation implementation pieces, particularly the lack of Signed Fetches /Authorized Fetches in kbin would make for a bit of a bumpy experience for non-admins on other platforms since I know a lot of instances do use and require Authorized Fetches to interact with them.

Hmm. I also know that is seeing a huge amount of attention right now making for a very busy developer so I’m just musing at this point.

Meanwhile, I’m working on an initial draft of the Japanese translation for kbin which I hope will be ready soon. It’s going to be a bit rough in places, but considering how little many Japanese know about Reddit, there won’t be as many conventions of translation as other platforms.

@ernest You’re welcome! I also found an issue with slug length with Japanese posts that federate into kbin. I created an issue for it on codeberg along with a workaround.

Tried a few times on a VM last night to install . All ends up not completing. Their Docker instructions must assume something im missing.

@AterNox I struggled but managed to get mine running without Docker (personal preference). There are a lot of little pieces here and there that I had to change or fix or configure while digging deep. I can try to update the wiki docs on codeberg when I have a chance, but that won’t be until later this week at the earliest. I opened an issue which helped with some of the last missing pieces in my install so maybe that one (and one earlier one I reference) will help.

@AterNox I don't remember exactly, but I ran the compose command on the main kbin-core folder and then again in the public folder. I also ran the yarn command on the main kbin-core and the src/Command folders from the looks of my command history. yarn install and then yarn build

@AterNox Also, I purposely didn't want to use docker so I'm not sure if the image is missing things that my bare install has.

@AterNox I think you can run symfony composer install in the root kbin-core folder.

Does anyone know if it's possible to create a new Thread on from an external instance not running kbin? I've heard it is possible(?) on lemmy, but I was wondering if that is available in kbin or not.

@ernest Thank you. I have been able to create new microblog posts but I was wondering if it’s possible to create new Threads (articles, links, or photos) in a similar way?

@ernest Thank you! Maybe Mobilizon can but it requires signed Fetches I think for proper federation so I look forward to testing once that gets resolved in kbin. Thank you again!
