I only learned about the Beat Saber World Cup and that it’s not the first year for it. I don’t know enough about #beatSaber to really appreciate it fully but given that skill differences are measured in hundredths of a percent at times is enough for me to understand that these are skilled players. It’s fascinating to see.

I would also like to thank my friend helping me find so I can report issues to to help improve the overall experience and software. Follows from more Fediverse Platforms seems to work now, transcript files are displayed properly in more podcasting apps, clips work well now, Apple Podcasts should pull better, and a bunch more little things. Castopod is a fun little platform and I do hope more check it out.

Trying to figure out the Reddit-likes, and feeling like a newb. Should I be setting up a new account? are there apps? Would a app work with ? Is that even the right question?

dannekrose,
dannekrose,

@john @notroot @christianselig

Mastodon doesn’t understand Groups and so there isn’t really any Mastodon API for them. There isn’t a way to have two “authors” for content so-to-speak in most microblogging platforms.

dannekrose,

@john I highly recommend a new account. The default paradigm in the is to follow Magazines(Kbin) or Communities (Lemmy) instead of individual accounts like on Mastodon. Mastodon doesn’t understand Groups (Magazines and Communities) and therefore will only show you content from individual user accounts you follow, not magazines/communities. I have a few explanations in a FAQ I wrote which you can see here if you’re interested.

  1. Threads isn't federating yet.
  2. Threads is showing ads.

Thought Experiment:
What if there were newly stood up Fediverse instances (Calckey for example) with the sole purpose of being specific instances that only federated with Threads. Keep them small and price them as cheap as possible and then advertise (some how, word-of-mouth perhaps) on Threads "Hey! You can follow and comment with all your Threads friends but without ads and you get to control your timeline and take advantage of all these other cool features (of Calckey) while you're at it!"

Costs would have to be incredibly low per month, but if you got enough people to do it and perhaps lucky enough, it might convince Threads to stop federating.

I would never do it since I have no intention of touching Threads, but it was an interesting thought.

Ok. Anyone set up a dev VM for Calckey recently have any gotchas I should be aware of?

dannekrose, to random

Sigh. Oh well. I doubt I can convince my Japanese friends on Twitter within 3 days to move here. Time to stay focused.

dannekrose, to random

I’m saddened after seeing discussions on Japanese Twitter. It’s going to be hard losing gaming friends in a few weeks (or months probably). Going to take the time to grieve and then move forward.

My little small instance saw a doubling of traffic in the last day from the previous days. It’s getting wild.

dannekrose, to random

Any Calckey admins running the latest dev and seeing issues with streaming?

dannekrose, to random

It appears a lot of rate-limiting is being done now.

dannekrose, (edited ) to random

It's getting limited a lot now.

dannekrose, to fediverse

This is simple and nice. I think I'll use it more especially since it's so lightweight.

dannekrose, to fediverse

The simple look is nice. I might give this more effort and use especially since it's so lightweight.

Any suggestions for a shared community calendar? It’s for sharing our server so would have to be easily editable by multiple people.

For now I set up a Google sheet for us, but maybe there’s something better?

dannekrose,

@meljoann Without knowing any details about your needs, I don't know how relevant this would be, but if you're looking for making something a little more public facing, Mobilizon might work. It doesn't show as a Monthly calendar view, but it allows events to be created and the group to be followed so that followers will get notifications on new events, comments, etc. It's Fediverse-enabled, too and made by the same group that wrote PeerTube.

I find the simplicity of has a unique charm for me. I can write short or long form and it’s all in one place with little distraction. The fact that I didn’t have to stand up a new server helped, but here’s to seeing if I enjoy it more.

dannekrose, to fediverse

Playing around with some lesser-known platforms and setting them up. The latest 2 are and and it's been fun.

The nice thing is they are both lightweight so I was able to set them up as subdomains on a less-busy instance I had. I also managed to hack up my install of Castopod so that I can follow it from without issues which is nice! Here's to seeing where that little experiment takes me.
