TIL: someone has been rebuilding Eudora 7 from source, with QoL (and modern SSL) improvements for the past few years... and plans eventually release final builds for Win/Mac.

has anyone had a chance to try HERMES 8 e-Mail? the only thing i can find on the web is an early Windows alpha here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hermesmail/files/

Update: it turns out Eudora was open sourced a few years ago! The original Eudora 7 Win/Mac source available here, even for commercial use:

@vga256 Wow, this took me back to a time when everyone I knew was using Eudora and I, the upstream swimmer, was using Pegasus Mail with a Mercury mail server on Netware.

@davesdogmaggie@mstdn.social avatar

@vga256 Yeah, I haven't touched Netware since sometime around 2002 when I was supporting about 100 retail locations that ran their POS software on a Netware server. There was no remote way to access a Netware server back in those days. Fortunately it was very stable. For user support we had a combination of CarbonCopy for DOS, PCPLUS, and dialup / ISDN. And lots of on-site calls.

@QasimRashid It's mind boggling that the minimum wage has gone up only $5.10 per hour in NEARLY HALF A CENTURY.

@jerry As I understand it, the purpose is to erode belief in science generally, which benefits those who, for example, deny climate change.

I call it factricide.

It's part of the propaganda / firehose of falsehood attack on the truth.

YouTube on smartTV now serves 2 ads at the start of the video from 65 sec each if you don't skip. On a video from under 6 min :ad:

Not even talking about the mid-video and after-video ads

At this rate YouTube is even worse than commercial TV :nkoHammer: :youtube:

Yes, I do have an adblocker but that does not work on a smartTV and I do not have a PiHole or something running

davesdogmaggie,
@davesdogmaggie@mstdn.social avatar

@stux I feel this so much. Sometimes, when I am feeling feisty, I will exit the video and restart it over and over and over until there are no more ads. I do not believe this accomplishes anything, but it makes me feel better.
