@LincolnRamirez@bookstodon Nobody in the replies has yet mentioned The Talisman. I don't think it's fantasy on the same level as The Eyes of The Dragon or Fairy Tale, but it's one of my favorite #StephenKing books. It still hits the fantasy notes well enough and quest aspect is terrific.
@fskornia@LincolnRamirez@bookstodon I've been on a recent kick of re-reading favorite books (including the entire Dark Tower series) even though I try to prioritize my to-read list of books I haven't read. I might need to jump into The Talisman again sometime soon.
Radical idea for social media: we should be able to leave a like on other people's like actions. If somebody likes (or "favorites" in Mastodon parlance) my post, I should be able to express that I like that they liked what I had to say
We could continue giving each other back and forth likes until eventually two accounts bound together in reciprocal liking reach the like singularity
My heart aches for the children who will no longer have access to their local library because some arrogant assholes decided to be offended by books with new ideas and different perspectives.
That's why book bans are so stupid. Every kid with a smart phone has ready access to content much worse than the most scandalous book available for checkout at the local public library. It's so performative.
I don't understand how some of these people survive everyday life.
Do you really not understand how a checkout counter works, middle-aged-white-lady? Why are you putting your card in the reader before the cashier has even rung up all your items? Why are you taking your soda off the belt? Why, when you realize you didn't pay for your soda, did you then pay for it in cash and wait for your change? Have you literally never bought anything before, or are you incapable of considering how your actions might affect others, or are you incapable of thinking more than three seconds ahead of the current moment?
How do these people survive everyday life if they can't even manage basic social awareness in one of the most common retail settings on the planet?
@LouisIngenthron I get impatient with people too. OTOH, I've been discombobulated under specific circumstances where a simple transaction ends up taking much longer than it should. Maybe your middle-aged-white-lady was just having a bad day and it was a one-off?
