I recognize the need for policies like this, but while reading all these walls of text, the only thing that comes to mind is the old saying about bureaucracies: “the more paper you use, the cleaner your 🍑 cheeks will be”.

Management came up with an official list of apps that should be available in every laptop provisioned for an employee by IT. The list contains all the different dev tools for dotnet, php, java devs and both Microsoft and Linux, without any classification.

I don’t envy those IT folk having to install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and paint[dot]net on a new PHP developer’s Ubuntu laptop.

🆙 Please upgrade to PHP 8.0, or preferably the latest PHP 8.1 release, 8.1.13.

🆕 PHP 8.2 comes out on December 8th!

@derickr I still have projects using Magento 1.x and Yii 1.x, both of which have been eol’d for years now. I am going to have so much fun dragging them into PHP 8 😅

@kenguest that’s good to know, thanks. I already had fun with it in earlier upgrades, fixing little warts like end(array_keys()), so I expected something similar this time as well.
