@MonaApp Do you think an option to show hashtags as a different color inline, as now, but hide the “#” to make reading posts with inline hashtags better would be reasonable or desirable?
@MonaApp It seems I get a “new post” badge on my home icon when there’s a new post that is muted. At least I think that’s what’s happening. Sometimes while in another tab, my home tab will have a new dot. When I switch to it, there will be nothing new. Checking in another app without mutes shows posts muted in Mona. These should not trigger the new post icon.
@christianselig@justin Please do. I’ve been looking for a mount I like for ages. Everything is terrible. I can have one printed but I’m not ready to spend the hours (and hours (and hours)) learning how to design it.
@MonaApp Is there a way to hide the Alt-text indicator on photos? I find that it sometimes covers content and I very rarely use the alt-text. If there isn’t an option, one would be nice. Thanks!
Lots of smart and security-oriented folks are confused about what exactly a passkey is. There’s a good reason for that. We explain here: https://www.eff.org/what-is-a-passkey
@eff Know why they’re confused? Because you don’t answer the question “What is a passkey?” with “It’s a cryptographic key pair.” That’s all that needs to be said. The smart security people know what that is. Instead, every single article about passkeys obfuscates that fact with some nebulous notion. Even your “explainer for smart people” buries the simple answer in a footnote. What’s a passkey? It’s a cryptographic key pair. You don’t need to write an article.
I love Passkeys, and also believe that Passkeys will, eventually, eliminate my need for 1Password (which I like — but would like to not need!). macOS/iOS Passkeys automatically sync to all my devices, they’re not a text string, they just work.
So, imagine my surprise when I just went to create a Passkey for Nintendo, and found that 1Password blocked and hijacked the system Passkey prompt… in favor of their own.
Just a convenience? Or artificial lock-in to protect 1Password’s future? Hmm
@cabel Disable the setting “Stop competing sign-in pop-ups in the browser”. This is expected and desired behavior if only using 1Password, and can be disabled if not. You can also disable passkeys altogether (without disabling passwords) if you don’t want to use them in 1Password. These two options are in the same settings section.
@jerry I forgot again that you live in the same area as me. We were tracking/avoiding the same storm. Maybe even guessing whether the same city’s fireworks were even going to start (finally did at 10:02).
@christianselig An app like Apollo gaining support for the new federated communities like kbin would do a lot to drive growth, which would snowball to user migration. I know it’s not that simple, and that you’re already thinking about that, but I figured I’d add an upvote to the idea.
@codinghorror I'm noticing a semi-regular occurrence where some of your posts get boosted by you a short time after the initial one goes up. It's not every time, just a handful of times a day. Is there something deliberate going on here, or is this a fat-finger from an app? Example attached.
@codinghorror@rageous I feel like my wording here is a little incorrect. It duplicates the post to your follower’s timelines is probably the more accurate description. Although this is just semantics. The crux is contained in my previous post.
@codinghorror@rageous As far as I know, the original language was supposed to be “post” and “repost”, but it all got muddled when they were jokingly paid to change “post” to “toot”. So “boostin my toots” became a thing, and the self explanatory “repost” = “retweet” was lost. “Post” was recently changed back officially, but “Boost” is unchanged.
@codinghorror@rageous I don’t know how hearts work on Discourse (sorry!), but retweeting your own tweets was always possible. It just wasn’t usually done only minutes after sending the original tweet. I don’t think it should be disallowed in case some old topic comes up again.
