After Twitter terminated access for 3rd party apps, I couldn‘t use Spring anymore so I removed it from my devices. Now I reinstalled it on my iPad to get the discount option in Mona, started it, added an account and whoops, it seems to work again?!?
Are 3rd party apps allowed once again?

@MonaApp ooo, "add content warning" should NOT be behind a price gate as it will encourage free users to not warn. This is "pay to not be rude". We should pay for things that make our experience better, not pay to be polite to others.
@mattwilcox my opinion of Mona dropped, I've added to the "naughty list" of apps with Mammoth too (over their VC funding stuff) I'm still happily using Ivory
@scrwd I want to jump back to @ivory (I bought it) but it seems like it still doesn't support the Mastodon native filtering system. And that's a total deal breaker for me, so I use it then find myself feeling shit - and realise it's because I'm awash with the content I've filtered out on all other apps behind warnings. Then I quit it and go back to IceCubes.
@mattwilcox@ivory I haven't noticed many updates to Ivory for a while now. It might be that they are working a meaningful release, or that they are working on other things. I think they were working on search (at least that is what I took from a feature request I made a while back)
@MonaApp Thank you for not having a subscription. That would be a dealbreaker for me. I have far too many subscription apps, and I’m slowly getting rid of them; it’s becoming very expensive. I will gladly buy the Pro Max version.

2 minor things that would make my 5 star experience into a 6 star experience:
i would love it if replies could be unlisted by default, Mona has caused me to accidentally post replies to the local timeline a few times
i would love a content warning interface that keeps posts the same size regardless of whether the CW has been opened, i think ‘Toot! for iOS’ has a good one

Just a quick note to say that Mona IAP did not detect I had Spring installed at first (the IAP was disabled). Needed to launch Spring first, and switch back to Mona before it allowed purchase

@rob That’s by design. People who feel extra generous can purchase Mona Pro for multiple times. An extra confirmation screen will be displayed if they already have Mona Pro.
@KE8UPE@MonaApp There are to many to list but some include more post actions, more options in the composer, and the ability to export and import your settings. The Pro Max upgtade allows you to use the app on all of your iPhones, iPads and Macs with support for Family Sharing.
@KE8UPE@MonaApp Mona is my favorite on the Mac. The one thing that keeps me in Ivory land is the notification sounds. I like hearing a sound for each notification type. Mona will be on my phone though.
@mikedoise@MonaApp I plan to find one app I like and stick to it. Right now, my favorite on the phone is ice cubes, but it’s not very accessible on the Mac. I may check out Mona, now that it’s been officially released. Actually, now that I think about it, I was a #BetaTester for this app! It's wonderful! :)

May I make one small suggestion? The profile metadata can be a little difficult to read, especially when there are no hyperlinks. For improved readability, it might be nice if the labels and their content were on separate lines. My humble mockup is attached. 😊

@MonaApp Not sure if it's just me but Mona keeps showing up notifications from a few days ago in my notifications center, I have to clear notifications out manually. Any way to have notification center clear for Mona when I open it?

The app is unmatched, really, and I do appreciate all the work. If you don’t want to get new icons, icons that people have requested for so long, it’s your decision. Keep the Twitter app icon. But this? Meh move.

@aar0n@maique That’s fair. My idea is that when people looking at Mona or Spring on App Store, they can instantly tell that these two apps provide a very similar experience, and give existing users of each app a great confidence on their purchase of another app.

But, you can always keep the Spring icons, and have the default Mona icon be the same as the Spring icon, but then you can always offer a variety of alternative icons, so that the user who already has the application can change it to their liking.

Also, an option to turn on a reminder to add alt text to photos would be nice.

Is there (can there be) a way to bump up the character limit on posts? I’ve hit the limit a few times and had to ditch Mona to go post on my instance’s web interface instead.
@MonaApp It’s activated. Turns out that I thought my instance offered a higher character count. Mona looks like it’s cutting me off in the right place (which is probably good, 2222 characters ought to be enough for anybody 😉)

@MonaApp You still don't offer the ability to use the custom instance emojis. That's a huge thing to still not support, especially after filing a bug report about that during the beta.
@zav_ Thank you for the report. A temporary solution: sign in to your account on the Mastodon website, then on the third party app settings page, remove Mona from the list.
@MonaApp Just discovered your apps, both Mona and Spring. Excellent apps. I am just curious how you managed to keep a full fledged Twitter client alive despite all the changing policies at Twitter, while all others (like Twitterific, Tweetbot) jumped ship.
@MonaApp I'd have liked to have jumped on board, but your proprietary system for handling mutes/blocks/filters is a deal breaker.
If you actually implement that using Mastodon native features, so that I can manage what content I'd like to see via. mobile, and see that carry over to the web client, that'd be a game changer. I otherwise like what's on offer, but I don't use Apple's OSs exclusively, so whatever I use has to play nicely with others.
@MonaApp My Masto server was down the other day but the Mona app had cached the timeline. Links still worked, just the server side stuff was broken.
Limped along admirably until the server came back on line.
@MonaApp Already purchase Mona Extra. Satisfied. Using on MacOS, PadOS and PhoneOS. Favorite feature: reliable and consistent time-line, including message count. I hate it when the timeline scrolls away from me while I’m reading in it. I love that a large timeline is cached and I’m able to move freely within it. It also seems to remain persistent even if you quit and relaunch the app.
@MonaApp are the prices listed yearly? it doesn’t say. i won’t do the free trial unless i know i could afford to keep the subscription. let me know because it’s the best one, but i’m poor.

The notification settings have been redesigned, allowing you to check and adjust settings across all notification categories more efficiently;
Mona Pro users will be able to import and set custom notification sounds.
Mona 5.4 also includes a few quality of life improvements, and I’m planning to release it next week.

Mona 5.4.4 adds a new toggle for iPhone in Advanced Settings and Shortcuts (named Adjust Settings), which unlocks the landscape mode on iPhone, and works harmonious with the “StandBy” feature on iOS 17. @MonaApp Still far and away my primary Masto app….thanks for keeping the development cadence moving forward! Question: is server-side custom emoji composer entry and feed view Animoji support on the roadmap for future development? That’s really the only feature still missing from the app as compared to some of the others.
@MonaApp One small thing that always bothered me: when you share to Mona from the share sheet in another app it switches me into Mona. No other apps behave that way.
clicking on link preview thumbnails opens the thumbnail instead of the link
window on Mac opens on the active display instead of the last, and moving it between them resets its size
syncing timeline position does not update the topright unread counter
I know it is a much more complicated thing to do but notifications read status sync would be VERY good (when I read a toot, remove notifications of it on every device I’ve got)

@MonaApp A desperately needed and very simple accessibility fix is to allow alt text to shown simultaneously with the image it describes, both while composing the alt-text and while viewing it on the timeline.
@MonaApp Because the alt-text adds context to the image and vice-versa. For instance, if the alt-text describes a specific detail of the image, it is kind of absurd to be two actions away from being able to actually view that detail (and then two more actions away from being able to finish reading the alt-text). The image and its description are the same content, and should display together.
(Not everyone who needs/uses alt-text is 100% blind, fwiw.)
@aoeieoa I see. If you have a Magic Trackpad, you can zoom in with a pinch gesture. Otherwise, try right clicking the picture then select “Open Image in Preview.”

@exchgr@radicalrobit@MonaApp But (I think) only before the image is in the compose window? If I long press on the images in your post, yes, I can select text. But if I long press > share to Mona, once the image is in the composer I only get the options to add alt text or remove.

@MonaApp Loving the inverted timeline! I did notice that the progress counter still gets bigger instead of towards zero as you scroll down. Am I missing a setting to change that?
@MonaApp Not sure if it’s a bug or an intentional choice, but you can no longer swipe down with three fingers. A.k.a. pull to refresh in Mona. It is very annoying. Can you bring this functionality back?

@Mpwg@mjf_pro Looks like it’s because hachyderm.io has a duplicated emoji called “terraform_logo” (two emoji entries with the same name).
@hachyderm could you take a look and see if it’s convenient for you to remove one of the duplicated terraform_logo emoji from your server? I will solve the issue on the client-side, but it may take few days before I can ship an update on the App Store.
@MonaApp The only criticism I have to this update is that my hashtags have been grayed out, versus the coloration of them. I liked seeing them pop out, I haven’t found a way to customize them in any facet. Unless I’m totally missing something?
@MonaApp I just wish the hashtags in posts would display in the accent color (like web links) rather than light grey. They used to display with the accent color.
@MonaApp After selecting the name of a (reading) #list sometimes it appears an overlay w/ counted new entries. But if I missed to tap that I have to scroll up the loong way.

@ctbk The battery usage should be on par with other common social networking apps. Turning off video and GIF autoplay in the Mona Settings help reduce battery usage.

@MonaApp Could it be possible to make mona able to select files to attach to a post which isn't part of the camera roll?
When I select add image or video on iOS I only get what the camera roll of the phone is showing me. I can't seem to move back and explore the usual files app content. Am I missing something here?
The only way I found is to share the file to mona, rather than the other way around.
@MonaApp Yeah I saw the attach picture button, but once I tap on it, I only seem to get whatever the pictures app of the iphone has taken, screenshots, or camera.

@renwillis No actions required, the app will handle your settings gracefully. But please know that some settings may only take effect once you activate Mona Pro.
@MonaApp I just installed Mona on my old iPhone from the appstore, and it won't let me reply, favorite, reblog, or do anything with VoiceOver rotor. Not sure if those are pro-only features and if the free version's more of a preview than anything else. I didn't activate the Pro trial.
@MonaApp Doesn't work though at least not with the rotor on iOS 12. I have an old phone from 9 years ago I use when this one's charging. iOS 12 is so old though it might not be supported, but when I opened it Mona said it would download something to work with iOS 12.
