Just a warning to anyone using G*power for power analysis of multiway ANOVA - results can vary wildly depending on setting of options, and the defaults may not be what you want. Lakens pointed this out years ago, but I suspect many people, like me, are not aware. see https://pubpeer.com/publications/5329C2DD6804C773DB3BD25DC8380C#6 for example of 3-4 fold difference in N depending on options - plus references to useful resources

shocking piece on failure of research integrity at Swiss Center for Proton Therapy.
What is euphemistically termed ‘guest authorship’ was, in this case, more like ‘extorted authorship’

Have to say, I think guest authorship is not just unethical but also a high risk strategy - you may find your name on a dodgy paper

A small rant about zombie ideas and the tendency to keep looking for modifications of study methods to avoid concluding that a null result is really null. http://deevybee.blogspot.com/2024/03/just-make-it-stop-when-will-we-say-that.html

Another shout out for our new preprint,
https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/vzg3e
which we think is interesting for 3 reasons:
a) Acts as a tutorial to introduce DeclareDesign, an excellent #simulation package in R
b) Uses it to compare 2 competing analyses of a RCT run by EEF on GraphoGame
c) Argues for simulation as way forward in the 'multiple analysts' problem

#Rlanguage #RCT

I'm looking for a good of and before medicalisation. I want to know how people with these symptoms were described, conceptualised and classified in the centuries prior to WW1, when they were simply seen as lazy or eccentric or a little funny, not recognised as having developmental disorders. No history of 20th century psychiatry needed.

New! preprint coauthored with Charles Hulme: "When alternative analyses of the same data come to different conclusions: A tutorial using DeclareDesign with a worked real-world example".
We use DeclareDesign to compare 2 analyses of a RCT of Graphogame intervention that came to different conclusions

Remember that paper on Strain on Scientific Publishing, which showed that some publishers are encouraging an exponential growth in publications via special issues? Well it seems to have touched a nerve with Frontiers, who are now trying to diss the authors.
Not a wise move, I think. Authors response is here https://the-strain-on-scientific-publishing.github.io/website/posts/response_to_frontiers/

Well, this is a novelty. A case where tortured phrases have been substituted in the names of journals in the reference lists, so instead of "international journal of..." we have "global diary of ..." !

You may remember this case of identity theft involving Prime Scholars

It seems virtually impossible to get this corrected, but I'm advised that best approach is if affected individuals join forces. Please contact me if you'd like to be included.

evidence of fake peer review at MDPI.
No doubt they are bot the only publisher to have this, but it’s hard to see how they could meet their target of v short decision times with an uncorrupted peer review process
